Why would anyone move to the East Bay or outside of S.F. county for that matter ? The reason for moving to Calif. is for S.F. alone, archt. street cars. I don't want cheap eats or where to get a tatto.! Reasearch shows Calif is more like the third world regarding the majority of the residents . I DID watch Kardashians this morning and that is where I would want to live ! Where does that guy get the money to buy all of the condos for the girls and that house ? I looked over Walnut Creek when I read the Russians are there, but it is NOT in S.F. cty ! Sonoma seems to be a better place outside of the bad things assoc with Cal. (too many cars, crime, broken everything) . Some one posted (NOT I) that guys were relieving themselves in the streets in S.F. and so many looking bothering one for handouts.. It seems the decent folk must carry pepper spray or stun guns . Today someone really knocked Orange Cty.

I think your question is stupid and racist and uninformed. (I guess if you actually watch something called the "Kardashians" first thing in the morning it says a lot). But if you really want an intelligent answer then....
Most former San Franciscans like myself choose the East Bay because we start having children, think about their needs first, and want to be able to park our cars without a hassle or tickets. I can watch birds, see coyotes, deer, wild turkeys in my backyard and grow my own vegetables in real soil (not sand).
Yes, slower pace of life as I get a little older...it's okay by me after the party/bar/ drug/drama/dating scene of my youth. But I don't knock it for the 20yr olds!
I didn't want my kids to deal go to a public school on the other side of the city, and didn't want to pay 30k a year for a private school. I like that I can hop on BART and have easy access to all the wonderful things about the City. I'm preferring the warmer weather (after living in both Ireland and San Francisco). That's just my story..not unusual for people to move on after having kids.
I don't feel like I'm living in the third world either in the East Bay OR San Francisco...I feel fortunate to be able to be in one of the most wonderful places in the world. I've never carried pepper spray..even when I worked a block from the Tenderloin and got off at 11 every night.

You are right ! The t.v. was so poor this morn around (shh) so the moderator doesn't hear, Chi ! I LEARN about Cal. from your postings. I never knew much about Cal. The bum rapp was on this forum this morning about Orange Cty. being the armpit of Cal. with no one speaking English from someone else. I just look at demographics, crime etc. on sites like "Sperling's best places", and "Great schools" !They are not racist that I know! Draw your own conclusions. The part about the street people I read on the Portland board in reference to S.F. There should be rules about dress codes in public ! We out here in the rest of the country only read about Swartzenegger cutting off the water, gays, or people sleeping in cars in Stockton. If one types in Best states, to raise one's family, (don't let it out) you will get in the top five, Vt. Me. N.H. and only going by stats, I think the crime rate is much lower in these states on a per capita level. Also the weather keeps the panhandlers away in winter. I have a 10 yr old daughter. FOX and CNN put nice looking females on for some reason, Megan Kelly, Robin Meade, and the news media tells the bad sides. I surrender.
