I didn't glorify California. I've spent most of my life in the midwest. You, on the other hand, glorified the midwest and are for some reason pretending that there aren't very similar areas there.

Really, because Chicago real estate hasn't fallen to pre 2000 levels even in the worst areas
Our state is not bankrupt
None of our cities are in the top 10 most dangerous cities provided by the fbi
None of our municipalities are trying to declare that the are bankrupt

I think you'd find a lot of similarities between Chicago and San Francisco proper. Both cities are so very expensive to own in that often times you see really upper-class sides and really lower-class sides. Most of the middle class were grandfathered in or simply rent.

That is where you are wrong, statistically out of New York, La, SF, and dc (the other metros in the top 5), chicago is only city where the middle class statically speaking owns more homes. Its you guys on the coasts, who have a middle class living in poverty.

A cable guy in the chicago suburbs can own a home in say rolling meadows or hoffman estates, in a mostly white suburb, with decent schools and low crime rates. A cable guy in the bay area is living in poverty, even in low cost places such as richmond, vallejo, or antioch

Most of the middle class were grandfathered in or simply rent.

Maybe in sf, not chicago. We have homes in middle class white suburbs going for under 300,000k

bay area pride gets old when driven by emotion alone and not facts.

I'd say be careful comparing any public school in the east bay to those along the north shore (here come the Piedmont backers).

As for the bay area 'worldliness' you might be talking about- guess what? people mistake themselves as being overly worldly in other major metros too.

That is the thing I noticed time and time again with people in the bay area. particularly the east bay. All pride, NO INTEGRETY.

Most people I have met from the east bay, especially in the service, behave like animals. Seriously the guys in basic training from the bay were worse than the southerners. "YEA BRU BRU FO SHIZY BLOOD IM FROM DA TOWN"

very similar to comparing piedmont to south chicago

Except piedmont is not Oakland, there is not one oakland public high school that scores higher than a 3 on the api rankings, even skyline is a ghetto crap hole with all the inter district transfers from the hood. Kids from Oakland dont go to college, they go to jail. Look at the stats, more children from Oakland will spend time in a jail cell, than they will in a college class room.

Chicago is grappling with the fact that is now the 3rd largest city and will soon be replaced by Houston and Chicago will be 4th with Phoenix fast approaching.
