Default Looking to move to San Francisco

Was wondering how much the apartment prices are.
Looking for something cheap. Like 500 dollars cheap.
Don't need the flashyness, nor do I need a garage. Plan on communting walking/bus at the moment. So no car at the moment.

Doubt that you'll find an apartment for $500 in the City. A room perhaps, but not an apartment, not even a studio.

Note that even a covered parking spot can run $250-300/month.

If this helps, three years ago my junior one-bedroom 35 miles east of SF was going for $1,200.00 per month. So, if you're looking to get your own place in the city of SF for $500.00, I wouldn't count on it. Of course, you could always try looking for roomates or alternative living situations, but this is SF - one of the most expensive cities in the U.S.

You could rent out a small room, but not an apt or studio for $500.

No way in hell are you going to get a private apartment in the city. A guy I was dating a couple years back was paying $700 for his apartment that had room for a bed only if he put the top of the mattress in the closet. No cooking facilities. Shared bathroom down the hallway.

You can rent a bedroom or living room for $500 a month in the city, but don't expect a great area. But nowhere, absolutely nowhere, in this area will you get a private apartment, or even a private studio, not in the worst areas of the city, nor in the worst towns on the area, for $500. My fiance has a friend renting a very small bedroom in a sh*tty part of San Jose, about an hour south of the city, who is paying more than that $500.

We're paying almost $1,800 for a very small 1br apartment and feel lucky for the rent being as low as it is.

I've seen some that are the $500 this person wants to pay. $500 for a covered parking spot.

I'd look more at 600-700 just for a room in a shared living space if you are trying to go cheap. If you go lower it is probably going to be quite far from public trans, sketchy, etc.
