Hi,
Considering a move to the bay area (in AZ now) and would like to live in SF but a possible job is in Petaluma. I'm not entirely familiar with the area...is that drive going to drive me crazy?!

Is there a neighborhood you would recommend that would make it easier to get out of the city for that commute? (Something a mid20s, female would feel relatively safe in?) I've been hearing North Beach and Nob Hill a bit but not sure how the driving would be from either.

Or (and a big OR) if I were to live north of SF to help shorten the commute, any recommendations on where I should consider?

I'd appreciate any thoughts!! Thank you!

Hey, wish there were more responses to this post- Just getting ready to write my own and this one sounded so much the same...
I am in the same situation, late 20s, moving to SF for the first time and working in Petaluma. I would like to live where it wouldn't be a bad commute but still be able to go play in the city (afterall that is the whole point in moving out there to begin with). I start work in a few weeks, did you move out there yet? How long is the commute and what areas would you suggest living in if you were going to do it again?
Thanks so much!

The commute from SF to Petaluma is like 45 mins without any traffic. If you're planning on living in SF I would definitely live near the Richmond district because you can get on the highway going north very easily. The good thing about that commute is that the traffic is going the opposite direction that you're going so in the mornings traffic probably won't be that bad! Good luck with your move, SF is a beautiful city.

You have got to move North Beach, Marina, Cow Hollow, trendy, near the water for exercise. After that, most young people live in Valencia Mission area for the warm weather and constant nightlife, party life, but there are some safety issues...
Golden Gate Transit to Petaluma starts from the Valencia Mission area and goes thru the Marina/Cow Hollow area to your work, 2 hours so hope you like to sleep or read...
