Hello everyone, San Fransisco is on of the cities am think about moving to next spring. I already know that I will have to rent a room to able to afford to live there. My big question is, How is the Public Transportation system. I don't drive and will need to use Public Transportation to get around to school and work (When I find a job) ? How much are month passes?

Public Transportation is great...equal with NYC in my opinion. I still had a car, but would have been fine without it. I remember they were around $45 per month, but the price may have increased since.

Follow this link. They increased prices this month to $55 per month. Everything else you want to know should be on here:

The public transit is fine, if crowded at times.. it goes all over the city in rich and poor areas alike. The Sunset is a little bit underserved imo, but the Great Highway is closed so often it would be almost impossible to run a bus on it.

Thanks for the info, I would probably find a room for rent near the City College of San Francisco, just would need use Public Transport to get around. Not sure what the Great Highway is at, why would it be closed often? Traffic Jams? Long as I can get to school and to a job, I am fine, Thanks for info the pass.

The Great Highway is closed frequently because it's on the beach and they have sand removal crews run several times a month.. seems to me like trying to keep the sun from being hot, if you have a beach there's going to be sand!

I'm actually not very impressed with the level of service from Muni. Buses don't seem to run on their scheduled frequency (due to the lack of drivers and/or funds I would guess), are usually packed (since they don't run on their scheduled frequency), and often skips stops during rush hour (because they are completely full). The last problem is especially bad if you live in the middle of a route that is heavily used during rush hour, such as the 21 in the morning.

I have lived in San Francisco and currently live in NYC. I can say the public transportation within San Francisco is similar to NYC, which means it is very good.

Also, make sure to peruse Transit.511.org. Outstanding website for public transportation throughout the Bay Area, including San Francisco. It also has a great trip-planning feature.

If you are reliant on public transportation, just make sure you are close to a muni metro stop. I live on top of a hill which is not convenient to a muni stop (have to climb big ass hill) so less satisfied.
