I didn't know that walnut creek was very convenient if you need to commute to downtown sf for work.
On the map it looks quite far away.
So, anyways, I'm taking walnut creek into consideration most definately..
But I also have noticed South Bay-belmost area?
I think this area has more reasonable rents and you wouldn't need
to drive over the bridge to reach SF.
Walnut Creek is a very safe neighborhood and expensive to live there. Take note also about the expense that you will travel either by car or BART going to Sanfo.

San Leandro is not safe. You can watch the city manager on Youtube--telling residents of the city that he would not let his teenage children go to the movie theater because it's too unsafe. This was during a city forum on crime.

San Leandro is unsafe, but not that bad. It's a huge dump, though.

The homes in Estudillo Estates and Bay-O-Vista don't seem dumpy...

Yea but those are a couple of neighborhoods, nice ones at that. If I am not mistaken a lot of the hillside that straddles san leandro/lorenzo is actually oakland in the northern parts and unincorporated in the southern.

You may be thinking of Sheffield Village... it is Oakland and only accessible by going through San Leandro and at one time the residents could get San Leandro Library Cards...

Do you guys know if Lark cross 138th ave is safe?
I am looking at houses around that area, and the houses there seem very nice.

If you want to know how a neighborhood really is, visit it at different days and times:

Weekday - Day & night
Weekends - Day and night

You will learn the most during your night visits since this is when people are home. Even some of the worst places can look great in the morning during the middle of the week. Visiting the neighborhood when people are home really gives you the best idea of what the neighborhood is like in all respects - including crime and safety.

Actually, the areas I tend to worry about most are places where there are a lot of people (ok, men) just hanging around outside during the day. That means they have a lot of time on their hands. Sure, they could have night jobs, but again, if there are a LOT of people just hanging around, then I'd be nervous.
