Default Gavin wants to tax my twinkies!!!!!

Since Gavin is trying to tax the heck out of soft drinks can snack cakes be far behind? I love the spongy goodness of a blonde twinkie or the cream packed devils food cup cake.

Man, if he starts taxing those there will be an exodus out of SF!!!! Mark my words!

I can see bootlegged snack cake vendors showing up on all the street corners!!!!

The government wants to tax everything and wants to take total control over our lives. Now all we need is a few in the congress who are vegetarians to decide to tax all meats cause they are not good for us. After that we will be given a chart and be hooked up to some device that will measure how much exercise we get in a day. If we don't meet the min requirements we will taxed or our insurance rates will be raised.

No insult on vegetarians by the way. I am just giving that as an example.

Nita

I find this new "War on Soda" to be especially disturbing.. The Obesity "epidemic" strikes me as a sham and a distraction so that "tolerant" liberals CAN single out a group of people and push a tax on a "vice".. Funny how there is NO talk of taxing STARBUCK's Frappuccino drinks which have have just as much sugar & calories than a can of soda?

The "statistics" point out that people in California's Central Valley (which is traditionally a "conservative area") have the highest soda consumption in the state, therefore, I would NOT be surprised if the Democratically-led state Legislature proposed a STATE WIDE Soft Drink and soda tax (on top of the CRV plus allows for additional "local" taxes)..

I find it absolutely sickening that so much time is WASTED on this matter rather than trying to resolve the issues of record state unemployment or the state's failing public schools, etc..

Nmnita brings up a very valid point, After Sodas, WHAT will be taxed next in the name of the "obesity epidemic"?.. What group will be "singled" out next?.. Again, it's funny that "tolerant" liberals are signaling out soda drinkers but would likely flip if a tax were proposed for example on women that have abortions..

Want to stop "obesity", try educating people about healthier alternatives AND working to make healthier choices more affordable, the average American family CANNOT afford to buy everything "organic" or "free range" or "locally grown", all those words mean to many are "EXPENSIVE".. Also, maybe it's time for parents to step up to the plate and tell their kids to go outside and run around a bit instead of sitting in front of the computer or plasma TV all day.. It all comes down to personal responsibility, NOT government and taxpayer responsibility..

No, that would have happened under the first Bush administration.

Interestingly, a majority of California voters voted to force farmers into "free range" husbandry, based on a diabolical campaign executed flawlessly by PETA, thereby putting many family farmers out of business, further shrinking the "slow food" supply, and, creating additional market growth for factory farms in Mexico.
