I live in Alameda and drive to San Jose for work. The morning drive on the 880 is pretty bad. I am looking for an alternative route. How is the traffic on the 680 South in the morning? I'm considering taking the 580 East to the 680. Any good ideas would be appreciated.

thanks.

That's just as bad - maybe worse.

My reccommendation is moving. There is no way to get from Alameda to SJ that doesn't suck to drive. It might be slightly faster to take industrial surface streets where available (eg bay farm island past the oakland airport on Doolittle, the get on Hesparian, take that past fremont, then get onto warm springs rd, milpitas rd. to SJ. That takes about 1:30 minutes

880 is the fastest and most direct route. Getting out to 680 makes you head out too far east and the Sunol grade on 680 is also known for some pretty bad traffic. The surface streets mentioned are an option but I don't know if they are any faster on a regular commute day.

If you can, make a work schedule where you arrive to work very early. This will help alleviate the morning traffic. Unfortunately, you can't leave early enough to avoid the afternoon traffic.

Moving closer is the best option.

Take 880 but go in really early. As you've probably noticed, the worst part is after Union City.
