Yes, thank God the voters stood up to SoCal's Taubman Centers who tried to block this relatively small development and enhancement under the pretense of representing concerned citizens. Obviously, the citizens did not agree with Taubman's selfish interests.

I love Walnut Creek but the place is becoming too upscale and trendy imo. It's nice and I'm not necessarily against this development b/c I doubt it will make much of a difference or impact; probably most of the people that would shop at NM are already downtown anyways. I just miss some of the old WC like Simon's and Navlet's.

If there's a Neiman Marcus there, you just KNOW there's money too.

Neiman's doesn't build stores in poor neighborhoods.

Most of that money is coming from outside Walnut Creek though, mainly Lamorinda, Danville, Alamo, San Ramon, etc.. WC isn't wealthy enough on it's own to support a lot of those stores imo.

There is good and bad with all of the upscale development imo, but WC has a very strong tax base b/c of it and it is part of the reason it has such a great quality of life so I'm not trying to say it's all bad. I just miss some of the old WC.

A lot of the locals got miffed at Taubman... they really resented his methods... at least this is what I've been told.

There was a large-ish ad in the Chron on Monday that the David M. Brian store put in about being FOR the Neiman-Marcus, and that WC had paved the way to make it very easy for DMB to move to it's present location so Neiman could have their great spot.

It's pretty telling -- when the company that moved thinks it s good thing all around, that's it's probably a good thing all around.

Maybe, but with Nordstrom, Macy's and the rest, that luxo-box containment ship has left port. Walnut Creek has an upscale shopping hub that keeps tons of sales jobs and tax dollars here in the East Bay instead of SF - it is a definite good thing for this area.

I agree. I cant believe there were people here who didnt want a luxury shopping destination in their town. Its not like they are trying to build a Walmart there.

I remember back in the 80s, Louis Vuitton had a store at Broadway Plaza(I dont think it was even Called B'way Plaza back then)-it was across from Capwell's(now Macy's) and Bullock's(Now Nordstrom) next to I. Magnin.(miss that store) LV closed at least 15 years ago tho. I wonder why?
