I don't see how you can comfortably live in Oakland if you have problems with communists. There's no shortage of that there.

Maybe you do not agree with the population on some of its political viewpoints and that is ok, but to point out cities that are just as radical as Oakland with physical characteristics and beauty that can be carbon copied in Oakland many times over is very telling. Get over yourself.
The "radicalism" of those cities is overplayed, even in Berkeley. The largest numerical student organization on the UC berkeley campus is the college Republicans! Now Berkeley will always be wierd, quirky etc but it has all but lost most of the militant left-wing radicalism of the 60's. Maybe most the hippies left (moved to Oregon), who knows. Now its a cute little college town filled with rich upper and middle class yuppies, indian restaurants and trendy "radical" bookstores (oxymoron).

Oakland is entirely another story. A case of not only left-wing idealogy but people actually implementing it, with quite disastrous results. The richer communities over in the neighboring cities (piedmont included) know better. Thats why they are relatively well run while Oakland is still mired in corruption, nepotism, crime and urban blight.

If I were you, I would live in San Francisco. If you have to live in Oakland, live in Rockridge or Piedmont. Oakland and Berkeley Hills are nice, but not walking distance to anything.

Do not move to Emeryville. The crime is horrible. My friend bought a condo there close to the new shopping area, and there was a drive by shooting and bullets went through her window while she was holding her newborn baby. She made her husband move them out of there the next day.

Isn't the title of the post WHERE SHOULD I LIVE IN OAKLAND?

Why can't folks just answer the question or create another post where you can postulate all day long.

There are lots of places in the East Bay... including Oakland.

The Monclair district of Oakland has everything you are looking for... as does Rockridge... and Lakeshore...

There are also areas less expensive like Laurel and Dimond...

Piedmont is a separate city with very low crime and excellent public schools.

Because you idiot, Oakland is a city with over 400,000 people, none whom can prevent you from saying or doing anything you want. There are no true communists in Oakland with any power, then again you are not from the bay area to begin with, you just regurgitate right wing propaganda. Yes, there are ration lines to hand out bread on communist Oakland.

BayDude,
Where do you live and why is it any better than Oakland? I wonder because I just realized that you spend all your time doing everything to tear down Oakland and we don't even know where you live and what exactly makes it better than Oakland?
