It will be "just a house". Things are *overpriced* here.
> Well at least that gives 'em Californians some bragging rights..'Hey my house in a slum, it might look it is falling apart, it does not have much appliances inside, but its worth a million bucks..and I am a millionaire even though the clothes I am wearing lost its original color and my car is one more break-down away from the junk yard'-
It's just true.
A few years back I was pricing homes in "The OC" vrs. nearby Riverside County. These numbers are "pre-crash".
Roughly $450K would get you a 3600 sq. ft. McMansion in Riverside. In OC, that got you maybe an 1800 sq. ft. condo.
Home prices here really are 4x the national average. So... if you come from somewhere else, you'll look at a house and think... "$200K" and it's $800K.
But that having been said, in most of OC south of Newport Beach, or South of Irvine inland, the houses aren't slum looking at all. That's more of an Anahiem and North phenomenon. But of course they are still $400K-$500K (pre-crash numbers), LOL! Well maybe mid $300's.
Heck homes in Compton were values in the mid $300K's at one point.
Bottom line, you want to live the "California Look" lifestyle, it costs... massively.
To anyone who thinks that TX sucks compared CA either you are misinformed or deliberately putting TX down.
....says the misinformed SF-bashing troll who deliberately puts CA down.

HOW MANY TIMES MUST YOU BEAT US ALL OVER THE HEAD WITH YOUR INCESSANT WHINING ABOUT THE LACK OF MODERN AMENITIES??? We get it! SF is not some start up city in the middle of the prairie with all new cookie cutter communities! Maybe its because our homes aren't constantly being decimated by tornadoes! There are places all over the Bay that have these suburban amenities your heart so desires. But they are so much more abundant in Texas so why don't you go back there and stop irritating us all with your retarded posts??
I never had anything against Texas before, but now I can see why the few friends I have that came from there originally couldn't stand it. No wonder they always advised me not to go there. The two people I've known from Austin are the only ones I personally knew who actually liked their hometown. But they LOVED it here even more. I don't know why you have so much to prove here, but you obviously should go back to your element. SF brings out the worst in you (at least I hope all this nitpicking is as bad as you get).

Want to throw your food waste down the sink? Think again, the city of SF wants you to compost in your apartment. Want to park somewhere on the street?Better read a list of 5 signs before you do.
Why go to a park? You've been listing everything we either can't do or don't have on this forum for the last few weeks! No need to look any further.
Of course there is some truth to what you've been saying, but the amount of embellishment you throw into your descriptions makes what you say range from slightly exaggerated to complete BS. Why must everything amount to absolutes with you? The world does not exist as you describe it, and you know this is true.

Not really. Lately SF seems to be filling up with moronic complainers that will try to find anything they can to say "look at that, you guys are less than perfect there!" They're not leaving enough room for SF to stay full of both those other types.
If you live in TX you will save so much money that you can vacation in CA 4 times a year.
LOL my buddy tried that a few years ago and regrets it to this day. He was making okay money out here ($75 or $80k) and was offered an opportunity to relocate to Houston and keep his same salary. He was miserable from DAY 1 and kept spending his money on CA vacations b/c he couldn't stand it in TX. He ended up moving back after less than two years - and had to take a huge pay cut in order to come home - b/c he just couldn't take it anymore lol. Yeah, you give awesome advice!

Of course you don't, b/c you are delusional about the greatness of Texas and the troubles of CA.

So you know someone who hated Texas, you are not the only person to say that, but for every person who moves from Ca to Texas and can't wait to get back, I would bet there are 10 that love the big ole state..
No place is perfect, Tx has horrible weather for the most part, other than that I can't think of one thing that Texas doesn't offer that would or should be appealing to most people. Again, not everyone mind you. I think we have really gotten off subject on this one. If nothing else the OP has opened up a real debate here.
My feeling, more than anything has more to do with her unrealistic ideas than whether Ca is better than Tx. that is a different story. Probably one would need to live in both places to really understand...For anyone who thinks they want a little more diversity and excitement in their lives and have spent a good part of their lives in a small college town in Texas Austin would be the natural move, before totally relocating. At least I would think so.
Comparing it with fishermans wharf is like comparing SF apartment amenities to cities with functional real estate markets.
I'll bet the RiverWalk would be a hit in Sacramento or Fresno! California is a huge state. There is plenty of room for Fishermans Wharf and Disneyland and a RiverWalk.
Are you being serious? It's not really that ass backwards there is it?
I am serious Gentoo!!! Its worse than you could imagine. Especially in the smaller towns. Everything is about Jesus and these poor kids just go to church all day. Its crazy ass backwards living in the past.
I'm 25 y/o office worker by day, fine artist by night. I hate texas but I have lived here all my life. I always wanted to move to san fran. I am making under 20k a year in Texas. How can I move to san fran? Anyone from texas moved to cali? What was it like?
Many of the people I know that have shared your thoughts were dissatisfied with their romantic prospects and felt that SF would be a more appealing dating environment. (One of my best friends in fact)
Not sure if that is the source of your angst but if you aren't happy....life is too short, start working on concrete plans to make the move or at least find out more and then adjust your plan accordingly.
Ok, so when I got that "gotta move to CA" bug, I "just did it." Sold as much of my crap as possible, loaded up my little Toyota pickup and drove to L.A. (which is probably A LOT more forgiving than SF, esp. if you're just starting up your CA Adventure). I got two jobs and found a roomie. (we were both bar tenders, and I also worked sales in a fun but sketchy "adult boutique" LOL). Anyways - the apt was an OK sized 2-bed 1 bath apt. in Long Beach on Broadway (3 blocks from the beach). And back in the Mid-1990's it was $800/Mo with secured underground parking - I would guess in today's market it would probably be around $1500-1800+/mo ? Ya, there was A LOT of Ramen noodles for about a year, but I was having the time of my life and wouldn't trade it for anything. Eventually I got a "real job" (in IT) and lived happily ever after.
I've since moved to several other states and cities, but CA is still a fond memory. Good Luck!
