Texas BBQ is usually judged by the quality of the beef brisket. Rudy's is a Texas based chain, that does a particularly good job with beef brisket. Their "moist" brisket has a lot of fat, is very tender, and has a very tasty black crust. Rudy's is also very consistent, from location to location, and by hour of day. Many of the more legendary places in Texas do not cook meat throughout the day so it best only for a few hours. Eat at an off time and it might be dry and tasteless. Rudy's pork loin is very good - amazingly lean yet moist and flavorful.

The falling off the bone BBQ you like in CA may be very good. But what is it? Pork ribs? Or is it chicken?

Bill Miller is almost fast food BBQ. Very popular because it is cheap and always OK. But I don't anyone who would say Bill Miller is great BBQ.

I agree Pappadeaux is a fine place for Louisiana-style seafood. Not exactly Cajun, but again a very consistent chain. Pappadeaux is owned by the Houston based Pappas family, who also operate the Pappasitos Mexican restaurants and the ultra high end Houston steakhouse Pappas Bros. Steakhouse. They know how to run a restaurant.
Okay, move aside you Texans. The BEST barbecue in the WHOLE WORLD is at Dreamland, with locations in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, Alabama.

If you don't believe me, just come and check it out for yourself.

Aren't arguments about barbecue much more fun than all this "Texas versus California" sniping that has been going on in this thread?

I wonder if you are milking the system like a lot of Californians who are claiming disability and calling it living in heaven. By the way more people have died from earthquakes here then the hot humid weather in Texas. Not all cities in Texas are humid only those near the gulf...humidity is not a bad thing. BTW buggy's live in all temps. Watch out for spiders!
1. I am a college student so no i am not on disability

2nd, Texas sucks!!! I don't care how cheap it is! I am not living in that hot, humid, boring, jesus land.

Also, did you forget hurricanes and tornados? Those kill far more people than earthquakes.

Texas only sucks to you not me! If you think Houston, TX the 4th largest city in the US is boring then I can only believe that you have never been there. Your one little limited out in the boonies experience does not represent the entire state of Texas. You can't be that shallow minded Actually from you posts it is apparent that you are. It is hard to imagine that someone would talk so much smack about a state based on their small limited experience in the booines.

I lived in Houston for 43 years and never had a tornado close to me nor ever knew one person who was killed by one much less ever witnessed one. Hurricanes develop very slowly which gives you time to plan and evacuate if you need. Earthquakes come on fast furious and without warning. I don't believe your statistics. How many died in Haiti, Japan, and China? from earth quakes in the past 2 years? A lot more than those killed by hurricanes and tornados! You forgot to factor in the danger of tsunami's which Texas does not experience.

Not quite Jesus land in Houston...it's a very international city thus many religions and atheist live there.

I don't care if Houston is "fun" and "big", it's still in Texas and it's still hot and humid.

I love California and plan on staying here for ever. Besides even if I had to move, Texas would be the very last place on my list. Same with the rest of the south and midwest.

Stop with the humid. West Texas and the Hill Country are far from humid.

So what! Big deal...why are you constantly complaining about it? Especially a place you have never visited. Keep your whining ass right where you are...no one but you really cares...just shut up being a whiner. We get already
