I think San Francisco County should include San Mateo and Marin counties and maybe even Palo Alto and Mountain View witch are in Santa Clara County but also geographiclly located on the San Francisco Peninsula and 650 area code.

This makes more sense since all big cities in the usa have a county
This is wrong because SF has a county, it's own. However still some large cities are not in a county, they are called independent cities. Baltimore is one such city.

Now since we're on radical views, I think the nine counties of the San Francisco Bay Area should secede from California and become their own state. Whatdya say?

You really mean everyone would be subordinate to the interests (and politics!) of San Francisco.

Well, that's where it gets fun. Palo Alto under SF's thumb...let's see it!

Default Re-merger of San Francisco County and San Mateo County

I absolutely think that San Francisco county and San Mateo county should be re-merged. Not only that, but I think San Francisco needs to annex all the land all the way down to the airport. I'd say it benefit both entities as well. It would pool resources more effectively (tax revenue) as well as provide more room for San Francisco to grow. Currently San Francisco is constricted by geography, and a random, arbitrarily drawn straight county line which was drawn nearly 160 years ago with no consideration for future ramifications. It would bring the housing cost under control slightly as there would be more land to build on as well as increase the supply of housing in San Francisco. Cities south of the airport (Burlingame, San Mateo, Redwood City) would still remain separate cities within the new San Francisco county. San Francisco's population would most likely swell to over 1000000, and land area would increase to over 100 sq. mi again making it one of the nation's largest cities. As for the former Daly City, South San Francisco, and so forth becoming subordinate to San Francisco's interests, I don't think it would affect residents of those areas much as many people who currently live there are residents who want to live in the city but were displaced but high prices. If the city could extend out to them, they could once again "live in SF" but not have to move.
