Hey everybody...I'm not looking to move, but I just wanna compare cities as far as price goes on my level of affordability....I already know California has way higher prices than most other states, and my mom's side of the family all lives out there even though i don't know them personally except a few ....but I was just wondering how much it would cost me at the poverty level to find an apartment out there?

I lived in Miami and Orlando recently and cheap places there are about around 400-500 for a studio were in the war-zone/project areas....and i moved to Nashville and found some places in decent areas for 400 a month ..those places are kinda ghetto but not really...it's hard to explain...I expect the cheap places to be more than back here or in Florida already, but...

My question is how much are the cheapest apartments out there in any part of town?

Well the cheapest craigslist listings in SF's worst/most neglected neighborhood, Hunters Point, are $595 for an in law apartment on 3rd street (no cross street specified), and $650 for a studio at 3rd and Quesada. Not a very nice area. There have been something like 60 murders in a 1 mile radius of 3rd and Quesada in the past 3 years, the vast majority shootings on the street. 15+ or so of those murders happened within a 5 block radius of 3rd and Quesada (including one that happened right on the corner of that intersection: a 17-year-old girl hanging out in front of the community center there was shot to death in a drive-by shooting targeting someone else. Her killer? A 14-year-old boy). So as you can see, even little studios in the middle of the ghetto are relatively expensive here.

Agree with the above posters-- $600 is about as cheap as it goes, and that's for a crappy place in a crappy hood.
