Oakland a very nice place to live downtown has the most dense population. Even though oakland population droped by 5 percent 70k people are supposed to move downtown in the next 10 years. Honestly the only reason central buisness district isnt bigger is because lake merritt residents dont want huge 600ft tall buildings hovering over the lake. i can see their point though mehh maybe they will rezone for more office space else where i know for a fact that oaklands popluation increases by 70k in the week because of work.

Oakland certainly doesn't feel like its population has decreased as the census reported. Quite to the contrary, it feels like its a much larger city in all areas, even in the areas that supposedly suffered huge losses in population.

Looking at these photos, I have to say it reminds me alot of where I live in Houston -- midtown, and the east end. Very haphazard, unplanned, lived in, mix of income levels (new condos and dilapidated houses next to each other.) Also the ethnic mix is pretty much the same -- roughly 1/3rds white, black, and latino. Looks like my neighborhood with hills and better weather.

Downtown Oakland's population actually soared by 30% in the last decade-according to the 2010 Census.

Exactly, the new Bay Bridge is still hidden behind construction pillars.

At this point, almost all of Nineties Flava's huge array of photos are listed as 403 Forbidden. Is there a way to either get them up (preferred) or delete them? The current situation is incredibly frustrating.

I deleted the imageshack account I had that hosted the images so there's no way for the images already posted to show up again (I can't edit old posts) but I can start a new thread.

Default The Town (Oakland, California)

It's been a while since I posted any of my Oakland photography on here. I wanted to share this set I was working on yesterday; it's not representative of all of my work on Oakland but IMO it is a good representation of my best work.

With that being said, this is the Town as I experienced it while I lived there...
