Facts about Emeryville, CA. Please help
Hi I am considering to work in Emeryville but a recent chat with a friend suggests that this could be worst place in terms of safety to be in.
I am kind of very nervous and would like to get opinions from people in this area. I plan to live in San Matio but commute to Emeryville. The exact location is 5980 Horton Street, Suite 400, Emeryville, CA 94608.
Is this place as bad as the famous Oakland high crime soceities. I will appeciate frank opinions since being a girl this is a very important aspect of my decision. If it is very bad, I will look for other options...Please help.

Parts of Emeryville are a bit isolated, though not as bad as the worst parts of Oakland. The places around the Bay such as 6400 Christie is pretty safe, though I'd still be careful walking around at night. Not sure about 5980. Will you get a chance to see it before you move in?

Parts of Emeryville Border Oakland and are basically an extension of West/North Oakland, which is the ghetto. The media loves to put fear in people 99% chance nothing will happen to you even in the worst parts of oakland. Don't fall for the media BS.

Emeryville has been rejuvenated. They have the Ikea and cineplex and all that. It's really not that bad. Hell, Pixar Studios is there.

Right next to the Oakland border isn't so great but parts nearer to the Emeryville Public Market and shopping tend to be better. They also tend to carry a much higher price tag.

Yikes. That is not an easy commute. The cost of living in Fremont is about the same as Emeryville. You will have a lot more fun and cultural activities in the Emeryville area.
SF
Berkeley (borders Emeryville) Check out the Berkeley Bowl-its a fantastic grocery store.
Oakland
Close to Marin.
