Talking Food Best Places To Eat !!!!

Hi I am planning s family weekend trip to San Francisco. I am looking for the
"must go" places when visiting San Francisco, Berkeley. For example pizza places, hamburger places, sandwiches specifically place that use no MSg and natural ingredients. Some other things I am craving are teriyaki bowls, desserts and any good and healthy asian foood.

And I know there are Whole Foods in San Francisco (2) and Berkeley. Which one is the one you recommend.

P.S. I am really craving a great sandwhich. Please recommend. Not Subway or Quiznos.

P.P.S.S. I LOVE FOOD!!!!

You have got to check out the Berkeley Bowl Berkeley Bowl Marketplace: Welcome

The Whole Foods on Telegraph in Berkeley is a classic. Also in Berkeley and Albany check out Zackary's pizza. Superb.

I have to second the Zachary's pizza--there is one in Albany on Solano Ave and one on College Ave in Rockridge--the deep dish pizza is to die for--I recommend the "Pride & Joy" which is stuffed with Spinach & Mushroom. If you don't want to wait a long time for a table, go before 5:30 or after 8.

Excellent, and very healthy, first choice of Mexican food is Picante on 6th St (off of Gilman) in Berkeley--everything is fantastic! They also have a nice brunch menu on the weekends. It is also affordable---we go at least once a week! This place is a hidden gem!

A very good Japanese place is Kirala in Berkeley--which is also right across the street from the Berkelely Bowl. Hours may be limited so check times first and it may be a little more pricey than some sushi places ... but it is delicious, fun in the evenings, and they offer some of the freshest fish in town.

If you are visiting Telegraph in Berkeley and want a quick bite, a good, and popular, sandwhich and salad place, is Cafe Intermezzo--very healthy and portions are huge--the long line out the door moves quickly, so don't let it scare you off. Very cheap too--a UC Berkeley student favorite.

If you want some yummy (and fun place) old fashioned style ice cream, check out Fentons in Piedmont. The also serve up burgers and diner food, but I don't think it is on the healthy side!

I have been to so many fantastic Thai places, it is almost hard to go wrong around here. My favorite it Bua Laung on Solano in Albany. Excellent brown rice and vegetarian choices. However it is a small place and not as "popular" as others.

Another good Asian restaurant in Berkeley is Kirin, on the top of Solano, and mainly is of Chinese origin but has some unique and delicious flavors.

In San Francisco, try Fog City Diner--1300 Battery St, San Francisco, CA 94111.
Serve small plates, great food, but not inexpensive.

Also for another great experience, try Guaymas. You can take a ferry from SF to Tiburon to the restaurant, sit on the outdoor dining and enjoy the view while you eat. The address is 5 Main St. Tiburon, CA 94920 Phone: (415) 435-6300.

There are also many restaurants in SF, Berkeley that serve all kinds of Asian cuisine: Laotian, Vietnamese, Thai, Mongolian. Every year, the Bay Area Express, an alternative weekly newspaper publish a section called Best of the Bay which list the best restaurants in the Bay area. They are organized by category and include restaurants voted best by the readers as well as the editors. I think you might be able to find this by going on line and doing search. There are many wonderful places to eat all over the Bay Area. Enjoy.

Just got back from a trip to Berkeley where my sister lives and wow, you have to check out these places; Holy Land, Isobune, Fillipos. All excellent choices! Since she's a local she walks down to these places all the time...

I'm a vegetarian and am partial to veg/raw food cuisine.

You must try Cafe Gratitude on 9th & Irving before you leave San Francisco! They offer the most delicious organic food you will ever have in your life and the atmosphere is very relaxing and tranquil. They have an outside garden area with heat lamps if you like to eat outside.

Savor in Noe Valley is also a great restaurant which cators to everyone.
3913 24th St (between Noe St & Sanchez St)

Neecha Thai on the corner of Sutter/Steiner has the best Thai food in SF, but I'm baised. There are probably a million Thai restaurants in the city and everyone has a favorite. This one is mine after trying a dozen over the years.

If you're venturing out to the ocean in the Richmond district. Katori, btwn 22&23rd on Geary has great Japanese food and sushi.

Another Japanese place in that area which is better than Katori is Balboa Teriyaki. It's located at 36th & Balboa I think. You get great food for a good price. It's been there forever and the owners are really nice.

Have fun.
