This statement also sums it up pretty well too:
the Inner East Bay also features a high incidence of crime as well as other socio-economic problems.
Read the phrase "socio-economic".
Which is exactly what I was talking about.
I noticed that you, as an ignorant, scared, sheltered american, failed to respond to my questions about traveling abroad and getting a taste of life and society outside the tiny, incestual world of the East Bay. I'm assuming you haven't then. Figures.

Forker,
I know in writing this response to you is a complete waist of time. But here I go...
You have not assisted the Original poster because the thread is OLD and I am sure they have gotten the information they needed when they moved here (if that event ever happened).
Mmm, how have I misunderstood your statements. On 4/16 in this same thread you reference that you have lived at the Jack London Square Landing for years. You personally wrote to me that you lived in Berkeley then you also responded to me on this thread stating that you had lived in Berkeley. So if others have been following this thread they can see my point. You claimed you lived at Jack London Sq. then now you are stating that you only lived in Berkeley.
When you PM'D me you said you now live in Santa Clarita. Now you only are claiming to live in Burbank. I can post what you wrote but wasn't trying to go that far.
Your third point, I have no idea what you are talking about. It wasn't I who thought you were a previous banned member who continues to write about the bay area in a negative way.
I am aware of the subject matter. As I have said time and time again, I am not a big fan of Oakland but the place has some really nice parts to it that is a fact. Yes Oakland, has really undesirable areas and a reputation that really can't be defended. But to deny that it doesn't have nice areas is a bit jaded and is not the truth.
As a whole Berkeley doesn't have the complex issues Oakland has. There is a small section of Berkeley that has a problem with gangs and youth. I'm not justifying it but this is a problem that is nationwide. There just isn't one totally safe place that doesn't have drug use and or some area of crime, they might be able to cover it up better but crime happens every where.
If you like Burbank and prefer it over Walnut Creek well good for you. If you are in the entertainment industry Burbank is a place to work and not a place to live and I know this best from growing up in the industry. I also wouldn't be jumping up and down about living next to studios since they have been laying off people left and right. The entertainment industry, mainly the film industry is going downhill. I wouldn’t be interested in living next to people who act like they can afford to live in certain areas of Southern California and act as if they can afford to drive the automobiles they are leasing. At least the people in Walnut Creek and other affluent areas of the bay have what they say they have and the nice part about it is that they don’t have to spend all of their money to show it.
The bay area sets economical growth trends. We have several industries and not just the entertainment industry to rely on.

Logic and reason????????
When you haven't come back with any good responses to my questions or statements????
Working poor, means poor, that means poverty. Understand the article I posted, and in the context of the East Bay $50,000 is worth the equivalent of $20,000. I guess you don't understand the meaning of "socio-economic problems" either. Keep living in the dream world pal.
Good luck to you as well in that pathetic and worthless wasteland of a culture with no morals or decency, where police and children are shot and murdered regularly, women are raped repeatedly, and drugs are consumed like water.
HAH! I laugh at a little sheltered ignorant east bay peon lecturing me about culture. A person that thinks homeless people and rampant drug use add "culture" to a city is intellectually retarded.
Here's my advice to you in order to broaden your limited horizons.
Go live in New York City, visit London, Spain, Africa, or Japan. Try Singapore out. These are all places I have been and experienced and I'm sorry but your little strip of crime called San Pablo Avenue is NOTHING compared to any of these cities.
Have fun living in hell. Goodbye.

You have misunderstood what I have written.
The thing I posted about Jack London square here was written by somebody else. Just for the sake of clarity, since you can't seem to understand, here is a reprinting of what I posted:
"Found this about The Landing at Jack London square on a website:
"Recently the Oalkand Police Department raided an apartment in the Landing and found large amounts of various drugs and items associated with prostitution, which is tied to organized crime in the area....ect....ect...ect
Can you understand that? I posted an account of Jack London Square written by somebody else, to make the point about problems in the area.
Secondly about Santa Clarita. I wrote you that I HAD lived there a while ago in the PAST. Not currently. Understand??? What more do I need to say on this? How much more clear can I make it for you?
" If you are in the entertainment industry Burbank is a place to work and not a place to live and I know this best from growing up in the industry. "
Well I live here, because it's close to work, and saves on commuting hassles and gas. Yes I would love to move to Santa Monica, but I'm not going to fight 2 hours of traffic to get to work in the morning. Also many of us that work in the entertainment industry aren't stars like your friend Linda Carter. (What has she done lately by the way?) Some of us are cameramen, writers, set builders, production people, artists, and executives.
There are more people that work in the industry behind the camera, than in front of it, you should know that right??? Go ahead with your nay saying about how the industry is failing. It is tightening up, but it hasn't affected me.
If you legitimately believe Walnut Creek has more to offer as a city for career opportunities than Burbank, you are a lunatic. Also Walnut Creek is a strip mall, new generic condo style community. Same as Burbank, only Burbank has more history like Walt Disney Studios for just one example. There is no culture there in WC, it's a wanna be SOCal suburb. What are you raving about that is so great about Walnut Creek??? I will admit that the Silicon Valley has AWESOME businesses in terms of computing and technology, but REALLY think about what people are actually using that technology for on a consumer basis:
To LISTEN to music,
And to WATCH television shows and MOVIES.
Which we produce here.
Once our industry falls, so does your consumer based tech industry honey. Sad, But true.
Also in regards to me "just visiting". I lived in the East Bay for a few years. I went to Jack London Square on a semi- regular basis. I am familiar with the Area. I drove all up and down that area trying to find a cool place. I know Alameda, El Sobrante, Richmond, Pinole, Jack London, Montclair, Lafayette, Concord, Bay Point, Vallejo, San Mateo, S.F., Burlingame, Redwood city, Hayward, and more. I've been EVERYWHERE up there. Just because I didn't live in those specific areas doesn't mean that I can't have an opinion on them.

By the way bay area girl,
YOU are the one that resorted to saying that the reason I hated the east bay was because I "didn't have a girlfriend" in our PM conversation. Which you were wrong about of course. What a desperate little move, and you raise children???
That's a childish and immature way to handle this isn't it?
Look at this everyone. These are Bay Area people. They resort to immature insults and attacks when you nail them on their b.s., they can't admit that there's a problem, so they go back to the same old tired responses.
"you must not get laid"
"you are sheltered"
"you are vanilla"
Well I do get laid, I'm not sheltered, and I'm least vanilla person you'll ever meet.
I've actually traveled unlike yourselves, who are stuck in the dirty rotten area of hell that nobody cares about.
Also the fact that you keep threatening to post our PM conversation, shows what kind of person you are.
Those East Bay Morals have certainly rubbed off on you.

First of all, you might be getting me confused with someone else but I don't appreciate you making things up. Do not associate me with comments about getting laid, being sheltered, or being vanilla. Please provide evidence that I made such ridiculous comments.
I've never threatened you about posting communication we have had. Since you are offering your advice people should see how far gone you are to make up their own minds. People should take your advice with a grain of salt.
Thank you so much for making the thread all about you. I'm sure all these people reading appreciate your selfishness. As I have always said, I don't have a problem with people not liking some part or all of the bay area. The bay is not for everyone. If you had a negative experience that is your experience and not mine or the many people who choose to live here.
When you responded to ssmaster on page 4 of the thread you mentioned about living close to the Jack London Square area. You also mentioned in private messages your love for Santa Clarita. You had a need to compare it to places in the bay area which is impossible to do. Then mid way through our communication you went on and on about Burbank without clarification when asked. Whatever, I really don't care where you live as long as it is not next door.
It is very important to have lived in an area when you are giving advice. When you pass by or visit here an area you never lived in, your opinions and initial thoughts about a place often is not the reality of what is happening with a place. From a visitors perspective I can give information about Napa but I couldn't provide information about living there because I have never lived there before.
Also, I never said Walnut Creek has better career opportunities than Burbank. But you like to twist words as if others can't go back and read what we both wrote. Did I say I prefer to live in Walnut Creek than Burbank you are absolutely correct about that. As much as I love Southern CA I know that people are great pretenders and don't have what they say they have. In Walnut Creek you will not get that. You will get real people with real families. The bay area has several industries that Southern CA can not compete. The tech industry is not our only business, that is why Southern CA has a higher unemployment rate than Northern CA and the housing market in terms of foreclosures are worse there. IMHO I believe Southern CA's market started the downturn in the housing market and was the fasted to go down.
Never said I knew Linda Carter, but again you have not read clearly what I wrote. I know many current and old timers in the business who are in front and behind the cameras. Doesn't make me an expert or any better than any one else. People in the industry have a short lived career which doesn't make me want to impress people by saying that I work in the entertainment industry.
Are we suppose to be impressed that you are working in the entertainment industry? Are you now suppose to be important? Well Mister Important why is it so important for you to communicate your disdain for a place you have moved away from? Your bad experience is yours and doesn't have to be everyones. Why do we have to "insane" because we like it here? We live here but you write more than we do abou the place. You have the problem and not us. Just move on.

Also, Walnut Creek nor any city in the Bay Area is not interested in being anything like any city in Southern CA. The bay and Walnut Creek have been around just as long as Burbank. Walnut Creek is one of the bay areas oldest cities so I'm not sure how it is trying to be like any place in So. CA?

"Do not associate me with comments about getting laid, being sheltered, or being vanilla."
Bay area girl,
Do you remember writing this to me?:
You are probaly bored with No. CA because you ARE SINGLE and I wonder why?
That is an attack on my love life, in other words saying that I have not gotten laid. That is plain and obvious truth of how you were trying to insult me with this statement. Those are the ridiculous comments that you have made.
You also said:
"The only highlight of my visit to Santa Clarita is being able to walk dogs with Linda Grey. "
So I mistook Linda Carter for Linda Grey...but whatever they are both washed up. Linda Grey is from Dallas, Linda Carter is from Wonder Woman.
Interchangeable in my book. Both are old washed up actresses who we all now wonder why anyone considered them beautiful enough to be on television in the first place.
"When you responded to ssmaster on page 4 of the thread you mentioned about living close to the Jack London Square area."
Again, I did not say I lived close to there. I said I lived by Oakland. Berkeley is BY Oakland. I don't know why you keep harping on this issue. What are you trying to do here? Undercut me by trying to say that I am lying? I am not lying. I lived in crappy Berkeley and have never claimed otherwise.
"When you pass by or visit here an area you never lived in, your opinions and initial thoughts about a place often is not the reality of what is happening with a place."
Did you LIVE in Jack London Square????????? Yet I see you giving people advice to move there all the time. Hold yourself to your own standards then if you wish to hold me to them.
"As much as I love Southern CA I know that people are great pretenders and don't have what they say they have. In Walnut Creek you will not get that. You will get real people with real families."
Yeah right you "love" Southern CA, in the same sentence you made a blanket prejudiced statement about the people living here being fake. I don't know any "great pretenders" here, I know real people who are working hard and buying what they can afford. Yes, some people make a lot of effort to present themselves in an impressive way. There is nothing wrong with that, and there is no reason to be intimidated by it. Just because people care about how they look and want to have a nice car to drive does not make them fake! Teenage Boys in the 50s used to buy their hot rod cadillacs to impress people, does that make them FAKE or Pretenders???? NO it means they have a LOVE for cars and driving, and maybe a little competitiveness with trying to get the girl.
This is the nature of Human beings, there is nothing pretend or fake about it.
Every one presents themselves in a certain way to be appealing to other people whether they go to the tanning salon and get their nails done, or get tattoos and piercings to look like a hardcore punk, everyone is doing something to express themselves and their character as well as to give an impression to other people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it is not important to dress nicely then why don't we have President Obama give the State of the Union address in sweatpants and a t-shirt??
WOW, I love how you say that people and families here aren't "real". What an insulting, prejudiced, and arrogant statement!!!! God it makes me sick. Get OVER yourself. People here are just as real and genuine as any where else, and people live beyond their means EVERYWHERE, not just Southern California.
"The bay area has several industries that Southern CA can not compete. The tech industry is not our only business, that is why Southern CA has a higher unemployment rate than Northern CA and the housing market in terms of foreclosures are worse there. IMHO I believe Southern CA's market started the downturn in the housing market and was the fasted to go down."
I never said that their weren't great industries in the bay area. Apple is one of my favorite companies and they are located there. There are many industries here beyond the entertainment field too. The Bio-tech industry for example is thriving in San Diego.
Your statement that Southern CA "cannot compete", Again shows your bias, arrogance and disdain for it down here. Southern CA can compete just fine, and is doing well.
You believe Southern CA started the housing crash???? Then how come Fairfield in the bay area was rated one of the hardest hit cities in the nation for the housing crisis???? The housing crisis was caused by adjustable rate mortgages, and people buying houses that they couldn't afford. THAT happened all over the state of California and is NOT just Southern California's fault. You make me sick.
"People in the industry have a short lived career which doesn't make me want to impress people by saying that I work in the entertainment industry."
Yet you are saying it right now. LOL!!! It wasn't my intention to impress people by mentioning that either. It was my intention to point out that Burbank has a lot of great entertainment companies here that a lot of people work for. Now you are trying to get a subtle dig at me that I will have a "short lived career". Unbelievable.
"Are we suppose to be impressed that you are working in the entertainment industry? Are you now suppose to be important?"
Not at all. I'm more impressed with scientists, and great world leaders than I am with Hollywood. They are doing the important things in this world. I am, however, very happy and feel lucky that I get to work at something I love, and that I think can help people have a better life, have a laugh with or maybe even take a moral lesson away from, if it is a great story.
But yes I think the companies here are wonderful, and the great history of Hollywood and the studios is a great part of American History, and I am proud of it, as we all should be. And no matter how hard you'd like to try and insult Burbank, it's studios are what defined a lot of this great city of Los Angeles, and why L.A. is seen as secondly only to New York in importance as a great american city.
I had a bad experience up there and am expressing to others about what is bad there. My number 1 issues with it there are:
a) Cost of Living
b) What you get for your money
You pay too much for a sub par community, with massive problems of crime and homelessness. TOKYO has more culture than San Francisco, and yet they have a much lower instance of crime and homelessness. London as well. Why is that? Because people that live in the East Bay are like the retards who responded in this thread who don't see a PROBLEM with drugs being used in public, or people being indecent in public. People who live up there think someone breaking into your car is just something you live with. You people have accepted so much that is so horrible that you have no sense of right and wrong anymore.
