Default Im new to the state and need to know if this specific area is safe. Please help me...

Im a 22 year old male and just moved here from New York City. I dont know my way around here very well.

I was craigslisting potential permanent places and one of the houses that fits what Im looking for has an address of

chase street between willow and wood street.
its located in west oakland

I have a meeting with the owner of the place later tomorrow but am not sure how safe it is in that part. Im not a total freak about safety but Ive heard that there are some VERY bad parts of Oakland and want to make sure this isnt one of them.

It would mean A LOT to me if someone knowledgeable with the oakland area could please tell me a little about that general vacinity.

Thanks

Jason

Do you have to live in Oakland? That area you are looking at is surrounded by indudstrial buildings, the freeway and on the other side of the freeway, the port. Looks like a ruff and old area to me. I'm not sure how safe it is, but I would not be surprised if it is a bad area.

I believe it is by a highway.
Thats not necessarily a bad thing though.

Does anyone with experience (eg: living in oakland and knowledgeable about the area first hand) know about it?

I cant begin to convey how badly I want this post answered. Please. If you know, help me

Hey jaden I lived in oakland on keller and it was vary safe!!!! As far as downtown oakland right now i'm in the same sitiuation as you except im moving to n.y. This is what i was told... that newark n.j. where i was looking for apts is very similiar to oakland. So that might be able to answer your question and tell you a litte something. I've been looking on govt. websites to look a crime statistics cuz i'll be alone as well you might want to try that. Because it honestly i depends on what kind of enviroment you feel safe in. You also might want to try piedmont next to oakland i loved it there. Hopr this helps.

I live in East Oakland in a purely residential area... I looked up at CrimeSpotting and found this ...

Oakland Crimespotting

So it looks quiet but they don't list a longer time frame...

Since I don't have an accurate address I can't use the actual crime map

CrimeView Community Incident Map

If you really want good information, call the police department and ask for a community liason officer... he or she will be able to help you. I know when we bought our house we went to the police department and asked about where we were looking to move.

A bit on the ruff side, with no obvious upside (maybe $$$). Wouldn't be my first choice of a place to move.
