Default Condo prices in or near the city?

I'm trying to prove to an Eastern relative that he, wife, children, and possibly on older disabled family member, can't afford to live in San Francisco or anywhere near it. This is a dream for him, but a highly unrealistic one, I think.

I'm living in the East too, so I could be wrong with my guess, but what would any of you consider to be an average price for a 3 bedroom condo, in a safe neighborhood, near excellent medical facilities? Either in the city or within about half an hour of?

His second choice for relocating would be somewhere in the Monterey area, but I'm guessing that would also be far too expensive, and I don't know anything about the local hospitals.

Any help greatly appreciated.
