My first speeding ticket!!! HELP!!!
I'm 21 and just got my first speeding ticket ever. I've been driving since i was 17 and had a clean record.... until now. I was driving on a 35mph zone when i was going 60. I don't know why i was going 60 and i've never gone more than 5-10 mph past the limit, so what the heck not?? My stupidity got me in trouble when a cop pulled me over and so... yeah, my first speeding ticket. Does anybody have an estimate as to how much this ticket will cost me??? All i know is that this ticket says that it's an infraction and was wondering what the range of this ticket will cost me. I'd rather pay the fine and go to traffic school online (if possible) instead of going to court. I know i'll get a point towards my drivers license and my insurance will go up. I just don't wanna deal going to court. Any help is greatly appreciated. This happened in Vallejo by the way.

You can go to traffic school online so your insurance wont go up and you wont get any points on your driving record. But you will have to pay a fine and for everything include the fee for traffic school, it is going to cost you around $200 - $250. This can all be done without going to court.

Admittedly, I've gotten a few speeding tickets in my life... but hadn't even been pulled over in 10 years, until recently when I was caught by a traffic-light camera. That ticket was pure BS, but I'll save it for another thread. Anyway, my ticket ended up costing about $350, and it was only for not stopping long enough at a light (before turning)... and if I decide to do traffic school, that's another $25-40. Expensive lesson, huh? And yes, you can attend traffic school online, which will erase the point & insurance hike - plus you can pay the ticket online or by mail, so no court is necessary.

I paid $180.00 for the speeding fine, $45.00 county fee for processing my request to attend traffic school and $19.95 for the online school.

Unfortunately because you were exceeding the speed limit more than 20MPH, you might not be eligible for traffic school, but it doesn't hurt to check. Good Luck.

I don't know if it's the same in CA, but in NY/NJ area...you can goto court & hope that the officer does not show up for court that day...then you will win by default. my cousin won that way for speeding on a 55 zone at 76 mph. They did that extra 1 mph just so you're over the 20 mph limit of charging an extra surcharge of $100.
If the officer shows up, then there is a chance to plea bargain with the traffic court staff by pleading guilty with no points. That's worth the trip to court.
Then again, I don't know if that's the case in CA.

I would go to court. The officer probably won't show up, and they'll drop it. I got a ticket last year for driving in the car pool lane. I showed up to court, the cop didn't, the ticket got dropped. Go to court, hope for the best. If they show, all you are out is time.

Take your chances and go to court.
If you want traffic school, you need to hire an attorney that specializes in this. He/she will get you traffic school.
In the long run, the attorney is the cheapest option for you.

Being an insurance agent, I know insurance for a 21 year old is expensive. Insurance for a 21 year old with a speeding ticket is outrageous. Go to traffic school, it will save you hundreds of dollars in insurance over the next 3 years.
