It is one thing to say 'In my opinion blah blah blah' and quite another to say 'Everyone knows blah blah blah'. So exactly what is it that everyone knows??

I disagree. I grew up in Cali my entire life.

Default Love the weather in Larkspur

If you lived across the bridge in Marin County you would see the sun a lot more and temps increase by about 10-20 degrees on some days. Very little fog in Larkspur. If there is, it burns off and you have a nice afternoon.

I am looking to move North so I can buy a condo. I'm 25 and sick of renting. The place I'm looking at has a lower mortgage payment than my rent payment for a 1 bedroom.

San diego and SF are not the place you want to live unless you MUST live in "boutique" cities!

Considering that you would make on average in San Diego around 60K for a typical tech/professional job (mid-range) and that most 1-2 BR condos hover in the 800K range on the coast and in downtown SD, you would be pocketing MUCH less than in SF. Typical mid-range for tech/professional in SF is between 100-110K. Hell, I made a 40K raise just by moving up here last year, with no promotion.

Check craigslist or Monster and compare salaries, then rethink your skepticism about how "expensive" it is in SF and how much better it would be in San Diego.

The Bay Area economy is booming right now, believe me, San Diego is certainly NOT the place to be....
Neither do you. Condos are NOT in the 800k range, unless you want to have a view of La Jolla. Most of the ones downtown remain in the 300s for 1br, probably 400-500s for 2br. These are the nice ones too, not the ones in the crappy parts of downtown. The prices have steadily been dropping too and it is not uncommon to find a 1br condo in the high 200s.

I'm currently looking at apts in the Bay Area (moving there in January) and I'm astounded at how expensive they are. My 1br, in a decent area, is under $900/mo. A comparable one in SF looks like at least $1500.

Traffic is not as bad as LA and there are not more homeless people in OB/PB/MB than in San Francisco. OB does have quite a few of them, but it's nothing compared to SF.

Yes, salaries do suck compared to the Bay Area (and most other major cities for that matter). But you no longer live in SD, so why continue to bash it?

i personally would never live in San diego cuz its just one huge suburban mall AKA similair to what you find in the OC. I currently live in SF and i cant wait to leave! Its really not as great as people want to believe. Im sure it was back in the day but now its full of people trying to live in the past and who are quick to defend it because they cant imagine what its like to live anywhere better. It hurts when the veil is finally lifted lol

Well,
Ive said it a gazillion times, no city can please all the people all the time. This website tends to attract the disgruntled so its no real surprise that your unhappy-perhaps your next hometown will be more to your liking.
