Average Commute from Alameda to Livermore?
Hi There!
Has anyone commuted, or known anyone who has commuted from
Alameda or San Francisco to Livermore?
If so, how long is the average commute? Are there certain times of the day/night that are extremely bad?
Please help, as I am new to the Bay area!
Warm regards,
New to the City

I used to drive from Hayward/castro valley to pleasanton. Once I got on the freeway it was pretty fast. It took me about 15 minutes and livermore was another 5 minutes. The problem you will have is getting to that point that I started. From Alameda you have to drive 880 south and it's a bad commute, so it could easily add 45 minutes or more. San francisco is a lot longer.

Id avoid 880, instead take high street through Oakland to 580 and youll encounter no traffic going eastbound all the way to Livermore and I guesstimate your drive time will be 20 minutes or so.
580 west through Pleasanton can be a little busy, and on weekend evenings a lot of folks from the valley travel to the inner bay so it might be heavy but normally the return trip if you avoid 880 should be pretty smooth sailing.

It can take 20 minutes just to drive from a home in Alameda up High Street to 580. The trip at that point down 580 to Livermore is 20 minutes at best, and oftentimes slower. Depends on the time of day, accidents, etc. It is generally a reverse commute (most people driving west on 580 in the morning and east in the evening) so if you work a fairly standard work day the 580 portion should not be too bad. Add around another half hour if you are starting in SF.

True and getting from Alameda to Intl Blvd on High Street is annoying to me cause of all the bridge traffic leaving the island, then all the traffic headed for 880, then all the illegals that line High@San Leandro streets then the train tracks...it can be pretty daunting.
And then all the kids walking to Fremont High....I guess your right.
Now that I think about it, Something quicker might be taking the Park St Bridge to 13th Avenue to 580 which is rarely busy except close to Highland Hospital and the freeway but even in that scenario we're talking no more then 2-3 extra minutes, and 13th is 2-lanes in each direction all the way with a good median dividing the street.

Yeah, I use that route on a semi-regular basis. Definitely faster than High Street. I should have mentioned it.
