Question Crime in Castro Valley (HELP)

Please post reply only if you have first hand knowledge:

DH is likely to get a good job with Kaiser. He is from Hayward, but wants us to look in Castro Valley.

I'm most concerned with crime. Not easy to find stats as it is an unincorporated city. Any information is valuable, esp. areas which are least crime ridden (ex: Proctor School zone, streets, etc.) We are currently living in the midwest where crime is very minimal.

Thanks,
Theresa

People move to Castro Valley to get away from Crime

Jensen Ranch and Independence public schools are sought after and don't always have room.

CV High Schools are mixed and declining...

Good Luck

Danville, Alamo and Orinda are popular cities for Doctors.

When folks think of crime in the Bay Area, Castro Valley never comes to mind. Nice place. Might also look over the east hills at Danville, San Ramon, etc. - even nicer.

Default Castro Valley?

Castro Valley is like any other City.
You have to call a real estate agent. They know more about neighborhoods than the police.

They make their money on the houses. Not how many calls that come in.
And the police can get calls for domestic violence in good neighborhoods.

Of course Agents/Brokers go by your budget. If your budget is beer, don't expect a Champagne neighborhood......Castro Valley has it's upper scale area. My son's cousin lives in a condo on a hill in Castro Valley. She is a Capitalistic Head Hunter for top notch corporations, she can live anywhere.

The only thing I've heard bad about Castro Valley, was yesterday, regarding the teenage girl that was dumped 3yrs ago behind the restaurant that the perpetrator worked at.
But Castro Valley is the gateway to Dublin, Pleasanton Hill, Livermore and some other great cities.

Hi,
I live in Castro Valley, raising my family here, and we feel quite safe. We have a local paper that will print arrests as well as talk about all sorts of local news such as our new art center and the farmers market. I've lived in the Bay Area most of my life, including Newark, Livermore and SF, but have chosen Castro Valley for it's small town feel but close proximity to all the culture and economics of the Bay Area. Also, Castro Valley school district is great. Hope this helps.

The last link to "crime" refers to all Alameda County. Castro Valley is unincorporated Alameda County true, but it is not all of Alameda County so those stats don't reflect our "town".

Also, forgot to mention, the Commute to Hayward Kaiser, Kaiser Oakland and Kaiser Pleasanton are all under 30min from Castro Valley. I also have a couple of friends who live in Castro Valley and work for Kaiser and they are doing quite well. A bit more info, housing prices are falling here so now is a good time to buy. For instance, my neighbors house:1485 sqft 3/2 5000 lot went up on the market in June for $649K then went to 625K and now it's at 579K. A good source to find housing here is movoto.com; it's strictly a CA market specializing in our metros.
