San Bruno (Daly City, Pacifica, San Carlos: apartments, condos, homes)

so, I am finally moving to SFO for my new job, which I'm very excited about. I found what I think is a great place to live. It is in San Bruno; about a mile south of 380, and between 280 & El Camino Real.

When I was there, the area looked pretty nice. Can anyone else give me some insight? Thanks!

San Bruno is a nice town except you will find it windy and foggy much of the time. There is also airplane noise from nearby SFO, but I guess you'll get use to it. On El Camino north of I-380 is the Tanforan shopping mall and nearby is a BART station where you can catch a train to SF and many places in the East Bay. BART also goes to the main terminal at SFO. It's a short drive west over the hill to the beach at Pacifica. West of San Bruno, up on a hill, is Skyline College, a 2 year community college.

Yeah, one reason I picked San Bruno is for the proximity to SFO. I'm an airline nerd, so standing outside and watching airplanes (to quote a song) is one of my favorite pasttimes.

San Bruno, like most other parts of the bay, have different parts of town which are roughly defined by the major roads. If you're east of 101, you're probably in the homeless shelter by the airport. The area between 101 and El Camino Real is the least expensive area with real homes, but the trailer park on Tanforan Avenue might make you think twice. Between San Bruno Avenue and 380, there are a lot of apartments and condos. South of San Bruno Avenue, which sounds like the area you're talking about, is a big step up. West of 280 (aside from the Shelter Creek megacomplex) is Rollingwood, which isn't all that different except that you'll often be parking on an incline. West of 35 is the priciest area.

When you get a chance, visit the aviation museum and library inside the SFO terminal. Lots of interesting displays and old photos. Also check out the Hiller Aviation museum at the San Carlos airport in San Carlos (along Hwy 101) - about 10-12 miles south of SFO.

Hiller Aviation is a real cool place... I almost worked there.... San Bruno in general is a pretty cool city... Much better than SSF or Daly City if you ask me. Good luck
