Moving to East Bay--where to live between Martinez and Byron?
Hi,
First, I'd like to say this is a great forum. Everything I read seems very helpful about the Bay Area.
Now it's my turn. I have taken a new job in Martinez, and my husband will be working in Byron. I have looked at Brentwood and Oakley, but what I read about the commutes here seem scary. Does anyone have a better recommendation of where to live? We have two children in middle school, so the priority is really to live in a great school district. We are trying to stay under $2500/month for rent at first. Thanks for all the good advice!

Walnut Creek perhaps? Reverse commute on Highway 4 to Byron and reverse commute on 680 to Martinez, and excellent schools.

If it is good Public Schools you are after then you should consider desirable Walnut Creek located 10 miles from Martinez but 35 miles from Byron. If you reside in the Acalanes High School District your kids will be attending the #1 rated district in the state. Houses are retaining their value, and rents are a bit higher (not as high as San Francisco), open space is abundant and the downtown centralized. Good luck!

I agree with Walnut Creek. Lafayette or danville would be good, but $2500 may not get you what you want.

Thanks for the advice
Thanks everyone. After a long visit to the area, I think we've decided on Brentwood. I think it may be a long commute, but the area was attractive and closer to my husband's work in Byron. I liked Walnut Creek, but was afraid the commute to Byron would be bad. Either way, finding a place between Martinez and Byron was harder than I thought it would be.
