I'm looking for affordable rent in San Francisco. However, I also need to be in a safe area.
Does anyone happen to know of an area like this? (Location-wise, I really like the Pacific Heights area. However, that doesn't seem to be a place that I could afford). ![]() |

Seriously, affordable isn't even in our vocabulary here, especially when you put it together with safe... but what exactly do you consider "affordable?" Of course Pacific Heights is a great neighborhood, but you're likely to spend $2000+ for an apartment there. For some nice middle-of-the-road areas, try looking around Bernal Heights, SoMa, Potrero Hill, Sunset, Richmond district, and maybe Noe Valley or North Beach (latter 2 possibly out of your price range). Hope that helps! |

Affordable is all relative. Your affordable may be $4500/month. Name a price range and you will get a few more responses.

As for affordable if you are looking for a 1,300.- 1,500. crackerjacks box size studio or you could stay in the crack hotels of the Tenderloin for about 300. a week. You'll love this place if you can afford it. |

The Castro is actually very nice, as far as I know... the Mission has both sketchy & decent areas, and even HP has a few nicer parts, like where I live. We pay $2195 for a LARGE 3bd/2ba house with a yard, and I've never had any safety or noise issues here. Just gotta know where to look, and not be automatically turned off by a zip-code.
I was afraid to look at this house when I saw the address, but decided to give it a chance... glad I did, because we've been very happy here for a year now. One of my friends rents a studio in the Tenderloin ("Tender-Nob" to be exact) for $1200, which is way more than I pay for my share of rent - and his neighborhood is MUCH sketchier!! |

Pacific Heights has multi-million dollar homes on the very top of the city. Danielle Steele, Robin Williams among others, live there.
