Default Is Hayward a safe place to live?

I know that every city and town has it's good and bad areas, so instead of asking about the town I'm interested in a very specific area of Hayward. Does anyone have any ideas about the top of the hill near All Saints Cemetery?

from: 37.668094,-122.077117 to: B St @37.670470, -122.088170 - Google Maps

We chose this location because it is almost half way between my work and hers. I work in Sunnyvale and she works in Richmond.

How you would feel about walking to the bart station (shown on map) at various times, early mornings (6am) and evening (9pm)? (This is in case of a woman)

How about property crime in the area? Cars stolen / broken into?

If anyone has any suggestions or comments about good neighbourhoods or neigbourhoods to avoid in the area I would really appreciate it.
Please keep in mind that we are trying to minimize the commute time for both of us.
We are not familiar with the area, so street names, intersections, or google maps links would be best.

Thanks for your help.

That area is actually in a decent part of hayward. Anything east of mission and up or up the hill is going to be nice. The further up the hill (ie close to CSU east bay) the nicer. Walking to the bart from that area is a bit of a stretch at night if you are a woman. Where you are headed (home)you wont have problems but where you are leaving from (bart station)..well you really NEVER know. Its not exactly sketchy but not exactly the safest choice. Id suggest a car(bart has police which hang around the station parking lots). As far as the particular neighborhood you are looking at goes, random property crimes do happen but its infrequent enough to where i would say its typically safe.

Wouldn't it be hard to walk from the BART station up the hill to get home?

That spot is fine.

Closer to the BART station is okay too..in fact, that whole "downtown" area has undergone a renaissance of sorts.

I know that guy in another post talked about downtown hayward like it was still 1989. All the milliondollar plus homes by cal state east bay on the hill have brought alot of solid revenue for the city over the past 10-15 years. Downtown hayward 's definatly cleaned up its act. The drag on mission st, technically isnt even hayward once you get a little past A street. Its actually unincorporated, which explains all the downwardly mobile strip malls until you get into san leandro.

I just want to verify.

There is a place that is essentially located here:

from: 37.668094,-122.077117 to: B St @37.670470, -122.088170 - Google Maps

It is a little west of Mission, but it is closer to CSU-EB. I just want to know if I should get the thought of moving in this area out of my head.
