Default Moving from SOCAL to Bay Area

I am a recent college graduate and am looking for a hip, young neighborhood in the bay area. I currently live in the Silver lake/Los Feliz and bike around the neighborhood to local groceries, restaurants, cafes, etc.

I am ok with gritty areas, born and raised in ELA, but I don’t want to worry about being jumped if I veer onto a wrong street.

I will be working right by the 19th st bart station and I would prefer to take public transportation. Does anyone have any suggestions? Plus, I am willing to spend what I spend in LA for an apartment, < 1000$

Cheers

Rockridge is your best bet. It's technically part of Oakland, but it's in between Oakland and Berkeley. You'll like it.

Rockridge is good but Id also check out Adams Point, the Piedmont Av area, Lakeshore AV and Grand Av, Harrison St Area.

There's a burgeoning arts scene emerging along Telegraph Ave and I really like the edginess.
