2 hours to get 20 mins away? How do you figure? And why would it take 45 mins from the Richmond district. Is SF really THAT spread out? I wouldn't want anywhere near a 2 hour commute to go get chinese food!

I'm talking by bus!
It takes you 45 minutes to get to downtown from Richmond District. Once you're downtown, to get to Chinatown you gotta take the 30 Stockton and that bus is packed like mad every single day! Let's not forget to mention the little Wah Ching members with their hands in people's pockets.

SF is so compact that in some parts of the town you can walk faster than the buses or trains.. reporters have actually done it.

There are no beaches at all that you would ever want to go to in Berkeley. MAYBE San Francisco, but it's not like sou cal at all in terms of beaches.

And which downtown do you mean? San Francisco? There aren't any beaches you would want to hang out on anywhere near downtown SF.

SF is not spread out. It is FULL of people, cars and buses. TAKES a lot of time to get around. Congestion is the word. And forget being able to park. Parking is nonexistent here.

Not that it's much faster to drive... add traffic to the mix, and you're looking at 30-40 minutes EASILY to drive through SF. I live down in the southeast, and when I was commuting via the Golden Gate bridge, it took me about 30-35 minutes just to reach the bridge entrance - and that was without heavy traffic, since I didn't leave until 10:30am. Now if you add parking to that scenario, you can count on another 15-20 minutes of searching (unless you're willing to pay for a lot). Argh... that's definitely one of my pet-peeves about this town.

I'd recommend oakland....
Lake Merritt,Temescal, and Rockridge etc are really nice places to live.
The Bart stations are there to get you to sf in 20 25 mins and there's plenty to do in berkeley and the east bay as well.
