Young in SanFran
Are there any nicer neighborhoods in SF where I can find a 2bed 2 bath apartment for less than $1200? I am only 19 and I plan on taking a year off in SF with some friends and to maybe look at schools out there for next year. What type of good paying jobs are there in SF for a young able bodied 19 year old? I would have to work for a year if I move out there because I could not afford to go to school and work at the same time.
Any suggestions on what to do?

Sorry, but you will definitely not find that in SF, even in the most cracked out ghetto you can find. In SF proper you can get some studios, and sometimes even 1 bedrooms in the $650 range and up (though the lowest price is usually $750+), but obviously the lower the price, the more chance you have of it being in a sketchy neighborhood, or not being in the best condition. It'll be expensive for a 2 bedroom 2 bath, and for a nicer neighborhood, you'll have to spend even more.
Of course it all depends on what your idea of "nicer" is....what exactly are you looking for in the neighborhood? If you're set on a cheaper, larger apartment, then you could also check out some places in the East Bay, and hop on BART if you wanna come to the city.
Check craigslist to see what there is.

Well, it might be okay if wages are higher in California. What is minimum wage in SF? I'll probably work two jobs as maybe a waiter or something of the like.

It can be done.
I'm livin on 1400 a month, renting a room for 750 in Presidio, although my commute into work everyday is killing me - about 1 hour to get there in the morning and 2 to get back at night.
As a fellow 19 yo male I must say this city is extremely difficult for somebody under 21 in terms of nightlife, especially if you don't know anybody your own age (everybody I've met or gone out with here is 5-40 years older than me)
I might recommend mission or panhandle, both of which are much closer to work than Presidio (I'm literally right next to Baker Beach)
good luck

Minimum wage is $9.62 I think...
Living in SF can definitely be done if you're poor, a student, whatever, it's just the part about getting a 2 bedroom for less than $1200 that's not very likely.

I'm spending $1200 per month in for a 1 bed in Orlando. There are no trains, crappy buses, high crime, what am I doing here? Hey, just find something cheaper than that and be glad you're not in my shoes. Rent.com or craigslist should do the trick. You might even find some desperate property managers at real estate offices that can help.
