Haha...I know...I got a ticket my first day in town! Luckily parking is included with my apt so I don't have to worry about that anymore!

By Hayward, are your referring to St. Rose? I have not kept up with St. Rose since the Sisters announced they are planning on leaving.

Of the three, San Leandro is the only one that has addressed the seismic requirements...

Eden has been in the news off and on regarding the Nurses and the Board not being able to agree on wages and benefits... There is talk of another walk out... so will all have to wait and see.

Eden also staffed the BayWood Retirement Medical Unit and recently gave that up... much to the disappointment of the local community.

If you like to run/jog... you will find Lake Chabot a favorite of Eden Staff. Lake Chabot is down the road from Eden and the Hospital sponsors several envents there witht the East Bay Regional Park District.

San Leandro Nurses had a different contract, but that may have changed by now.

Tally, I'm glad to hear everything worked out OK for your husband
Thanks -- they decided it was pericarditis -- inflammation of the sac around the heart.. but the cardiologist we were sent to after said it couldn't have been..... and his echo was perfect.... so it wasn't that.

It was scary as hell, I can tell you... and not so comforting to not know what it was.... but all the masses of tests seem to say he's fine...

Can't comment on Castro Valley although I've never heard anything negative.

I'd recommend Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont, Walnut Creek.
The hills are always a safe bet in San Leandro and Hayward. Livermore is really diverse and not everyone will be speaking english there. Dublin is ok although it has icky parts as well. Ptown is good W. Creek is good. Fremont -Warm Springs and The Mission are good. Castro Valley is good.

I prefer Castro Valley to Hayward and San Leandro. Also as far as property values and appreciation goes, Castro Valley is certainly better than the other two cities.
I lived in Castro Valley for 7 years. Castro Valley is a nice little town, with very easy commute to some major freeways like 880, 580 and 92. All the Castro Valley schools are very good with some of the best elementary schools. Depending on your price range, two of the newer homes area are in Five Canyons and Palomares Hills. At this time there are some great listings on the market in both the areas. I would recommend that you check out Castro Valley on Sunday when there are many open houses especially in these two areas.
There are quite a few restaurants in Castro Valley and for shopping, I would suggest Stoneridge shopping center in Pleasanton which is a few miles drive from Castro Valley.
Castro Valley also has some good wineries. Castro Valley also has some horseback riding schools.
