Default Hayward, Castro Valley, San Leandro???

I am a nurse who took a travel assignment...I was drawn in by the opportunity to work in Berkeley and San Fran. However, once i got here they changed my sector and now have me scheduled to work in Hayward, Castro Valley and San Leandro hospitals. Are these safe areas?? Any info is greatly appreciated!!!

I wouldn't live in Hayward or San Leandro. I'm sure they have decent areas, but I don't know of any.

Can't comment on Castro Valley although I've never heard anything negative.

I'd recommend Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont, Walnut Creek.

I am staying in San Francisco but will have to work in those areas. Do I need to be concerned about safety to, from, and while at work?

We have Travelers on rotation at San Leandro Hospital and many live in town... a few even live in San Francisco for the experience and take Bart to the east bay for work.

We have two travelers at the Wood Chase Apartment Complex... it is across the street from San Leandro Hospital.

The nice thing is that you can really live anywhere in the Bay Area since it is only temporary...

Welcome

Thanks! That eases my mind a bit. I will be driving...I am just not familiar with these areas and want to be sure that I am not being sent to a location that is unsafe

Eden (Castro Valley) is my hospital of choice. The area is fine -- looks a little older, but hospital is doing some building. My husband just had (last month) what they were afraid was a heart episode or going into a stroke. We spent the day in Eden's emergency. Can't say enough good about them. It was a long day, lots of tests, lots of waiting, but the nurses kept popping in to keep us informed. Bright and cheery, and relaxed.

San Leandro Hospital (affiliated with Eden I think) is also in an older area. I don't think anything awful has happened there -- but it's best to be aware of your surroundings in San Leandro.

I know nothing about Hayward.

San Leandro is part of Eden and both are in the Sutter Family...

By Hayward, are your referring to St. Rose? I have not kept up with St. Rose since the Sisters announced they are planning on leaving.

Of the three, San Leandro is the only one that has addressed the seismic requirements...

Eden has been in the news off and on regarding the Nurses and the Board not being able to agree on wages and benefits... There is talk of another walk out... so will all have to wait and see.

Eden also staffed the BayWood Retirement Medical Unit and recently gave that up... much to the disappointment of the local community.

If you like to run/jog... you will find Lake Chabot a favorite of Eden Staff. Lake Chabot is down the road from Eden and the Hospital sponsors several envents there witht the East Bay Regional Park District.

San Leandro Nurses had a different contract, but that may have changed by now.

Tally, I'm glad to hear everything worked out OK for your husband

A car in San Francisco might almost be a liability... one of our Travelers in North Beach rents a garage for $300 a month... she said it's cheaper and less hassle to rent a garage than dealing with parking or having your car towed in that part of the City.
