Even the "Worst" parts of concord are not that bad. I guess the presence of Mexican immigrants scares people or something but that area is not what I consider a bad area. Just middle class immigrant. I mean some of you guys are paranoid. Downtown concord? There are families there at night going to the movies you can't be serious.

Personally I dont want to live in a place where I need to be worried about the color clothes Im wearing, and yea by the theater is a piece of crap maybe if you went somewhere nicer you'd see that. I grew up in Concord, so Im speaking from personal experience. There are some ok areas, but I would choose a nicer, cleaner, safer city to raise my kids.

^Well if you can afford to live in Walnut Creek or better, yes theres no reason to consider Concord. For its price range I would say it is decently safe, nice and clean. Brenden Theaters is crap, the new cinema is Pleasant Hill is infinitely better. But that more due to brenden's age and poor maintenance. As for "colors", if your not a young male dressed a certain style, explicitly brandishing a color (think matching bandana/shoes), and cruising certain areas at night, you'll be fine. I remember the story about a boy who moved from Concord TO Sonoma County (Windsor?) , and it was there he got killed for wearing the wrong color.

well "skywalker" maybe u should try reading the local papers or better yet why dont you try wearing a certain color down on monument and see what happens to you. Just this past summer a young dad was pushing his baby in a stroller, he was in no way affiliated with a gang, had on a red shirt, and was jumped by a group of thugs! I'm curious does that really sound like a safe place to you. My sister, again not someone affiliated with a gang, was going to a little clothing store down on monument, she had on a red tank top, not thinking, and was approached by a cop who told her not to wear that color down here because it's dangerous! Sure there are far worse places to live than Concord but it's pretty sad when people think that living in a place wear the police are telling you not to wear certain clothes to avoid getting jumped, is a safe place to live. I'm curious what you think "unsafe" is.

A couple anecdotes can't be used to describe a place as unsafe. I mean there was that 90 year old woman raped and killed in Lafayette a while back and recently that kid killed outside his home in Danville. Would you say both those places are unsafe? I've worn red and blue around Concord before, and have never had trouble. I work and go to school in Oakland and Berkeley, and compared to what I see and hear there, Concord is pretty quaint. Safety is a subjective term, particularly to what you are used to and acquainted with, theres some people that won't live in a non-gated/guarded community. Personally I think thats over the top, but different strokes for different folks.

If you love Concord great, if you hate it great, but when people ask for information about a city, tell the truth, dont mislead simply because you love it so much. Concord has a lot of crime and there are certain areas to avoid, so dont make it sound like it's not as bad as it is. It is a fact that you have to watch what you wear, it is a fact that the brendan theater is run down and it's not that old. It is also a fact that depending on which street you are stolling down you are very likely to come across some wanna be thugs and a whole bunch of tweekers! I would rather know those kinds of things before I make a decision to move there.

every city has its ups and downs all i need to know is where in vallejo is the safe livable area?
i can tell you that even through oakland is the murder capital and richmond is there also that there are areas that you can live in that you wouldnt even know there is a problem. so with that said where in vallejo can i live that is close to police and fire department access and safe?

As a Vallejo resident and local realtor one of the most desirable areas in your price range is Glen Cove. Yes there are homes for $60K in Vallejo but they are most likely in an area called the Crest. This area has become a little rundown but there is alot of work to clean it up. However to most people it is not the most desirable and I have most people who do not want to look there. Every city has good and bad areas.

My sister moved to North Concord neighborhood of East Sun Terrace and she loves it there, the local school Holbrook is a good school and the people she totally loves. Bart is walkable. There are a couple gay families.
