moving to SF...jobs, dating, friends? (San Francisco, Oakland: apartments, job market, school)

I'm graduating from college in May and thinking about moving to SF... How difficult is it to find a job in the city? How many months would you say it'd take to find a job? Is it likely that I may end up looking for months on end without any luck?

I was thinking about moving to NYC for a while but after 4 years in the Northeast I realized I'm a west-coaster at heart and would be terribly unhappy in such a cutthroat, cold environment. Are people generally friendly and open to meeting new people? Can anyone testify about the ease of finding new friends in the SF in comparison to NYC?

Also, as a 21 year old Asian female what would the dating scene be like for me? I've been told I'm attractive and I didn't have problems in the past when I lived in Seattle but now I go to an east coast ivy league school where the guys don't seem to go for my type.

Remember that housing costs more in San Francisco than in New York. The search for apartments is competitive and you should have a job (not just a lot of savings) to beat out other applicants. Remember also that the job market is a bit sluggish, though as a recent graduate IF you are looking for an entry level job there might be some flexibility on your part to get an offer faster.

As far as dating, 21 year old women are beautiful and appreciated everywhere... Still, a lot of straight women complain about the pickings in SF..... Why? dunno... It might be easier to find a lot of guys in the East Bay (Berkeley, Oakland) or South Bay (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Silicon Valley).
