Hello, ca2002, I noticed that you mentioned that you are studying at Touro. I used to live in Vallejo and agree that it is best to be careful about which part of town you live in. The safer and newer/nicer part of town is East of the I-80 around the Columbus Parkway exit. There is a Costco there, Edwards Cinema, several shopping centers with restaurants and stores. I think this is a good area to live in and shop at. I actually have a townhouse there that I am thinking about renting out. It is a luxury townhouse in a gated community that is 3beds, 2.5 baths, has a loft and 2 car garage, high end finishes, an in home laundry room with washer and dryer. It would be more expensive than Bay Villiage, but if you are interested, you can shoot me an email (hungkit2@yahoo.com). In any event, good luck at Touro!

Well, I'm the one who originally made this posting, and not too many people addressed my question. I've decided that if one can find a home they can afford, within an hour from SF, go for it. I don't plan to live in CA for many more years, as I'd like to move to a more affordable area all together. For now though, I'm here and while I will spend more time driving, other areas of my life can move on. Vallejo has lots of potential. I know I've said that about many men I've dated, however, I think with this bankruptcy, they have a chance to get it together.

I'm from Vacaville which is in the same county as Vallejo, its been known as a ghetto for a while, every time I drive through the town I get some gangbanger tailgating me speeding off to his next drug deal, I'm not joking either, just drive around the town for an hour and see if you still want to live there

vallejohomeowner says this right. also avoid areas known as the "crest" (that's where most rappers are from) which is north of I-37 bordered by Fairgrounds drive and I-80. avoid parts of downtown areas like Millerville which I heard from MPerez707. =)

Hello people, I'm the original poster. I did not start this thread to have a Vallejo bashing. There is crime in every city. I've been to Vallejo numerous times and haven't had any "tailgating" experiences. If anything at all, I've gotten weird looks from folks in big pickup trucks and suvs with usa flags or fish symbols on them. I've met lots of really great folks there. For me, the downside is the distance, another toll, and that there aren't any surface roads to get from there to the berkeley area. It's all 80. However, to be able to own a nice house and have some privacy, all that isn't too bad.
I think it's time for a moderator to close the thread if it's going to become predjudicial. |

I've worked in Vallejo for the past few years. Have you considered American Canyon? It's very close by and a very nice community. It sounds like you'll only be there for a short amount of time, but there are good areas if you're set on staying in Vallejo. The areas around Columbus Parkway up in the hills are nice. I was nervous when I first started working in Vallejo because of all the negative things I heard about it. There are problem areas to be sure, but it's pretty well contained. I find that I like the location very much. A person can be in Marin, SF, East Bay, Sacramento within a very short amount of time. Also, the weather is very good as it cools down nicely since it's on the water.

Hi guys,
Out of interest, how long does it take to drive from Vallejo to downtown San Francisco (peak and/or non-peak times). Thanks! |
