I remember the Mackinaw in Michigan was $5 way before the GG was so who knows what it cost now. Dunno which is the most expensive.

How does it work though? Do you pay once for a round trip or do you pay twice (for each crossing on each direction)??

The George Washington Bridge between Fort Lee, NJ and New York City is $8 to cross going East-bound, whether or not it's during rush hour.

You only pay once on every bridge - on the way IN to San Francisco and the Peninsula. Unfortunately, that makes it impossible to "circumvent" a bridge toll, unless you go ALL the way south to 237 & cut in that way... trust me, I tried to come up with a way when I commuted to Napa, and it wasn't happening.

Why do you think Milpitas is so much more expensive than Fremont, lol.. Calaveras takes you right onto 237. No bridge.

That's one of those neat little expenses people don't consider when they pack up and escape from California prices. The further east you go, the more toll roads you find. Most (not all) of the toll roads and bridges are cheaper on the east coast but you can't swing a cat without hitting another toll road.

I have always been puzzled by the fact that interstates and US highways could have tolls when you consider that 14th amendment thingy.

Good grief I feel old. I remember when all of the bay area bridge tolls were a buck or less for years. I rarely go across the GGB anymore unless I have to get to marin for some reason. The GGB and what lay beyond will soon be an ancient memory for me if that toll goes up to $7. Damn that's $10 really, including the $3 worth of gas it will take to get across it.
