Default SF-Vacaville commute or places in between?

Hi,

My husband and I are moving from Chicago to the Bay area next month. We unfortunately have jobs that are further apart than we had hoped. I will be working within the city at UCSF (Parnassus), SF General (mission), and the VA. He will be working in Vacaville, right off the highway. We figure instead of one of us having a horrendous commute, we would attempt to split the commute and live somewhere in the East Bay (maybe Oakland?). A couple of questions...
- How long would the commute be to SF? I'm more than willing to take BART or any type of public transport, but will be traveling around 6am and 8pm. Is there any easy way by public transport to get to all of the above?
- How long would the commute be to Vacaville? We took a test drive and it seemed to take 50-60min each way.
- Are there any other areas/cities that might lessen the pain of this commute?

Thanks for your help!

Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill will have a reverse traffic commute via the 680 to Vacaville. Both have Bart stations for access to SF.

Walnut Creek, CA to Vacaville, CA
