Default Vacaville? - Warts and all

I am considering relocating to Vacaville. I have had a couple of conflicting opinions - i.e. it's a boring town or it's a great town.

My personal circumstances are that I am a single parent, mid 30's with 2 children. My son is 7 and loves playing soccer and my daughter is 9 and loves taking dance lessons. I work in the pharma/biotech industry. I have been told that many people who live in VV commute out of town to their jobs but I would ideally like to work in VV or close by either Napa or Davis so that I can be close to my children while they are at school. Housing wise I am looking at homes around 400K. I would have at least 20 - 25% downpayment.

I guess my questions are is it a good town to raise children in? Are there things to do - I'm thinking long term when they become teenagers?

What is the job market in VV like?

How is the housing market currently?

Is VV safe i.e. what is crime like there?

I shall be visiting for a relocation visit in 6 weeks. Any responses - good and bad would be greatly appreciated.

Vacaville is a good family friendly city with many things to do all year yound for kids and adults of all ages, sure its not San Francisco-but that's why we have SF close by.

As far as crime, The VV police are very pro active and keep crime down to a pretty safe level, but, for a truely safe community to exist, it comes down to each citizen being responsible for assisting the police-who simply cannot be everywhere at once-by becomming extra eyes and ears and reporting criminal and suspicious acts as they happen-(for the purpose of reducing crime-not get revenge on someone disliked)

North Vaca is better. They have great free musical events in Andrews Park in the summer.
