Question Is working in Richmond Safe?

I am going to be working in Richmond, CA. Specifically, the 1200 block of Nevin Ave. It's 5 blocks from the BART station. I'll be walking from the station to my work site. My hours are 8a-5p.

Can someone tell about that particular area. I would really appreciate honest feedback.

BTW I am legally blind.

Thanks...

I wish I could tell you that even in Richmond the kids aren't mean enough to rob the blind, but Richmond is one of the worst areas around. I don't know specifically about that block in Richmond but if you look like you have something to steal in 25% of Richmond the bad kids will rob you whether you are blind or not.
My guess however, is that if you found a job nearby it is not in the worst part of Richmond.
As for those kids driving by and spotting you, don't carry anything of value and unless you are a masseuse with the swordsmanship skills of zatoichi don't resist and they probably wont hurt you.
good luck

I work around there once a week, and haven't had any problems... granted, I won't walk alone in that neighborhood at night, but it's fine during the day. Nevin is actually a sketchier street, so I'd recommend walking down MacDonald from BART, and then cut through to Nevin - that's what my BART-riding co-workers do. So yes, it's a pretty bad neighborhood, but I and my 20+ co-workers have survived with only 1 incident in recent years (a mugging). I even park my car on Nevin, and it hasn't been broken into as of yet. Just be careful & savvy, especially considering your vision problems... any chance a co-worker could walk with you to & from the BART station? Good luck, and let me know if you need more advice.

P.S. I just mapped out your location, and it's the other direction from where I work (in relation to BART); that's actually a bit worse than my part of town, but not by much. So my advice is still relevant, but now I definitely will tell you to walk on MacDonald! Though if it makes you feel better, I believe the police station is right across from your workplace.
