Question Pacifica???

In my relocation quest(which some of you may have been following) I have been steered by a very nice real estate agent to seek temporary rental housing in Pacifica. I know that it is foggy but I think I can deal with that.
My search for the rental before we eventually buy a home is due to the fact that I want to familiarize myself with the BAY AREA before I make a more permanent commitment. It is complicated by the fact that we have two dogs and finding a place that will allow them seems daunting. I am willing to give up my rural lifestyle in New England, my chickens but not my dogs.
So what do people think of Pacifica and Avalon community as a spot to hang my hat for a few months while my wife and I search for a more lasting spot.

If you're going to be working in the Silicon Valley, you do NOT want to live that far north. If you can find a job in the city then Pacifica is very doable, one of my favorite places.

Hmmmm... I lived in Pacifica for a while, and never noticed a "redneck jerk" population. You will find more of that in Pacifica than some other towns, but I'd say they're more redneck than jerk. It's a great place to live, IMO, but I agree with sonarrat about the distance from Silicon Valley. Have you looked into Mountain View? That's a nice place with "reasonable" prices, and would be a MUCH easier commute for you.

Oh, and the Avalon apartments are nice, but more in Daly City than Pacifica (at the border)... so don't expect to see the ocean from there, but you'd still get a good deal of fog.

Thanks for the feed back so far. As for Red Necks I think I can deal with that some although my neck is not red but some of my best friends get scarlet color behind the ears at times.
Being near the Great Pacific may be nice though and I don't work in Silicon Valley, more likely in SF or Oakland. Commuting to Oakland may be hassle though. BART seems to be convenient though.

Well, if you're commuting to Oakland you could park at Daly City BART and be there before you knew it. I don't think it's that much of a redneck town, maybe if you're hanging around the trailer park.. southern Pleasanton is more redneck than Pacifica.

Very true - there are quite a few of them in Pacifica.

Moss Beach, I'm not too familiar with.

yea the last time I was there the fog was a thick as cotton candy but cool and uncomfortable, like something out of an old Hitchcock movie. I suppose I could get used to it if I had to.

I relocated from New Orleans last year, first staying with friends in the Mission district in San Francisco (which I loved) and then renting a house in Pacifica. I really wasn't sure what I was getting into, but as it works out, I love it! I like the eclectic mix of people here (even though I'm not usually partial to rednecks...), and most everyone I've met has been nice. The weather is cool and foggy (of course), but it's a great change from the hot and sticky New Orleans weather. The coast and mountains are gorgeous. There are many outdoor activities to take part in including hiking, surfing, and just hanging out at the beach. I rent a large house in the Vallemar neighborhood which is sunny most of the time and I get a lot more house for the money than if I were in San Francisco. The schools are great for both my 5- and 14-year-olds. I've also met several other "transplants" (one family from Boston) who are very happy in Pacifica.
