Default Oakland

What area would you recommend for young people (recent college grads) in Oakland? I was thinking the Lakeshore area or Rockridge. Any thoughts?

Rockridge is great, although a bit pricey. Check out Elmwood District too (although it might technically be Berkeley, although super close to Rockridge) and Piedmont Avenue.

BUMP.

Would any other thoughts on this subject. Not just Oakland either, but any part of the East Bay witha good commute to SF, and that isn't immediately next to UC Berkeley.

Another vote for Rockridge. Piedmont Avenue and Grand Lake are also nice, but not as accessible for commuting to the city unless you work near the Transbay terminal (in which case there are speedy buses that will get you there--Grand Lake's runs all the time, but Piedmont's is just during commute hours). Temescal is also attracting more young professionals, though they seem to lean to the hipster side, if that's your thing. The Elmwood is a great little area, but if you get too much closer to campus, you get into student territory. (Even Elmwood and Rockridge have a good number of Cal grad students.)
