Default Discovery Bay/Brentwood area commute

We will be relocating to northern California and working in Pittsburg. We have been told in looking for a place to live to consider a location that goes against the flow of traffic for shorter fcommute times (west to east vs east to west). We took a short trip out last week and became interested in the Discovery Bay/Brentwood area. Being from a small Wisconsin town we are looking for more rural areas. Does anyone know what the commute to Pittsburg from Discovery Bay/Brentwood area would be like? Other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi myamay,

The Brentwood/ Disco Bay to Pittsburg commute is short but can be intense. Hwy 4 widens just west of Pittsburg, but it's only 2 lanes each way thru Antioch. Causes a bottleneck. But with the new bypass getting to B-wood is much easier. Another town you may want to consider is Clayton. It's on the other side of the Kirker Pass from P-burg and and anti commute. It's more expensive, but has some very nice areas.

I have friends that live in Oakley which is next to Brentwood and they said the bypass saves them maybe 5-10 minutes and thats about it. A little easier but not much relief to that horrible Highway 4 commute.

The 4 is usually the first commute to go bad in the morning, but 5 am should be all right. By 7 am it takes twice as long to get to Pittsburg.
