Modesto is very nice DEPENDING on where you live. I have lived here almost 33 years so if you find a home or area, let me know and Ill give you my opinion. North East is a good area.good luck, Nick

We once lived in Cali. In the Concord area, there was a crazed wite collar type well off attractive white man in a Lincoln SUV who got out and pulled a gun on someone near us in a road rage incident. No matter where you live or who you live around there will be some type of violent crimes.
My husband's car was broken into by some kids in Concord and was stripped right outside of our home regardless of the alarm and security. Some old lady was outside and didn't do anything according to another witness who came later and called police.
Stockton is fairly affordable(for Cali) and has some nice places and parks. The rent and prices of home and rent are half the price(or more depending) of the SanFran Bay areas and you are not that far from SanFran for entertainment or recreational purposes. Check out craigslist. Not many blue collar industrial jobs in the area, but your husband is in healthcare. Healthcare jobs seems to be good anywhere, right?

Brookside
Brookside, I think stockton generally is boring, but is good if u have family in SFO/Bay/Sacramento area...so ur weekends are not bad. Brookside has some good school districts and generally the cost of living for houses is much better

My friend was sent to a group home there from a group home in Oakland off Seminary and he said it was WORSE in Stockton but that was in the 90's.
I am sure there are some nice parts -they do have Univ. of the Pacific which is a great college.
It is where a lot of folks from Oakland landed when they ditched and left for the SJ Valley. I was not impressed with their mall. I would check out Lodi, Lathrop, Manteca, Tracy if you are looking to live between Modesto and Stockton.

Modesto Is better. It Has a bigger mall and more stores that mostly found in the bay area. Modesto is almost like a pleasanton with a hint of Oakland(but not too much) just avoid areas west of 99 and south of Kansas and airport-empire neighborhoods. Try moving to the upper east side(north of the creek) and areas north of brighsmore. If u like a REALLY good (but pricey) try del rio, Wycliffe, or Lakewood (Lakewood elementary has the highest api score in 7 counties in the valley with 925

I think the line "Considering moving to Stockton, please advice" is very similar to saying "Considering going to hell, please advice". You just can't expect to get any positive information and should have the realization that you are jumping head first into a crime pit.
