Bay Point, Ca any info
Hi,
I want more info on Bay Point:
Primarily, due to the high number of foreclosures, does this area have a greater crime rate? Also, what areas are the most desirable? . . . especially how is the area around the BART?
Does this area also suffer from taking longer to appreciate in value as compared to others?

Bay Point is part of Pittsburg.. there are really no desirable parts of Bay Point, though it's far from the worst part of the Bay Area. The area just southwest of Pittsburg BART will probably be quite nice once all the vacant houses get populated again, but as it stands it's out of your stated price range unless you can get them to agree to a major lowball.

I bought a home in June in the southwest hills of Pittsburg in the Oak Hills neighborhood, up the hill from the Bay Point BART station. I have been very happy with the neighborhood so far. It's been quiet, but the neighbors are friendly. The prices seem to be bottoming out at about 50% of what they were 2-3 years ago, although occasionally there will be a good deal that comes up.
The City of Pittsburg seems to be doing a good job planning for the future and doing the best with what they have in these tough economic times. They definitely are working for the betterment of the community including building new schools, creating a vibrant downtown with activities for the whole family, and improving the infrastructure of a city that was neglected for a long time.
I'm happy with my decision to live here and proud to say that I am a resident of Pittsburg.

For many, Bay Point's nickname is Gun Point. Not really a ringing endorsement.

Hello Bay Point: I have just discovered that my Great Grandfather (C. A. Smith) had something to do with the establishment of Bay Point. Not knowing if this was good or a bad thing. But thought I would just say Hi to everyone there. For now , Yours truly, Pam Payne

Baypoint is actually an unincorporated community of Contra Costa County. Baypoint receives a lot of its services from the county government. This may lower your tax bill but you may not get as many services in return.
Basically all of Eastern Contra Costa County has been devasted by the housing bust. Homes there have always been at the lower end of the market but I don't think the appreciation will be much lower than the bay area average. The commute is really the biggest negative and always has been. Even on BART, it is a long ride from Baypoint to SF. BART says 53 minutes to Embarcadero.

There is no Utopia, Mayberry or Mr. Rogers Neighborhood anymore.
I truly believe every city has it's good and bad points. It all depends on the neighborhood and your neighbors.
I'm sure you can find a nice house in Bay Point. We live in CA.. not some 3rd world country.
I hope you will be happy where ever you settle.
