Default Single professionals

Where do the single (straight) affluent professionals (30s-40s) reside/spend their time? My job may be taking me to the Bay area. I'm a single female in late 30s trying to figure out where I may find best neighborhood. Is SF better than Palo Alto/SV (job is in MV)? If SF...which neighborhood?

Most of them spend their time mountain biking Peninsula trails or in my ex'gf's bedroom in Foster City. Oops...just noticed you are straight though...that doesn't rule out the biking at least.

If you're in Mountain View I'd look into San Jose over SF for sure. Lots of other nice places in the area though...you really can't go wrong.

Where are you coming from...what kind of atmosphere are you looking for? Late 30's and single there are alot of options for ya that'll work out. I'd not recommend the commute from SF to PA/SV though unless you are ultra-liberal and cannot stand being around anyone else who doesn't share your POV. I'd not live in PA either though, but since you'll be new to the area it's not a bad place to start out as you discover all the Bay Area has to offer.

Good luck! The Bay Area is a very nice and unique place.

Thanks for the response.
Spent most of my adult life in NYC, but have been living in Santa Monica (which I love) for the past 1 1/2 yrs. I like city life, but am kind of over it, but being single I would want to be in a place that affords me access to activities, culture and dating environment.

There is the Bay Area Professional Singles website that holds events all around the Bay Area. They send out weekly events newsletters. Sign up for their newsletter to see whats going on. The bay area has an ample amount of hangout places that even I didn't know of until I started receiving their newsletters.

Second the BA Professional Singles recommendation. I've not used but have friends (including my ex) who do. There are all kinds of other groups (check CL groups or activites, meetup, etc) all around the Bay Area for you to meet interesting people for sure.

Being single and coming from NY and Santa Monica...SF or San Jose will be the obvious choices on where to live, although most anywhere you live around the area will suit your social needs to some degree. Weather in San Jose is much nicer, and you'll have a shorter/easier commute, but in SF you'll obviously never lack for things to do. If able I'd check them both out firsthand before locking into a lease. As a mid-30s single professional also, who is very familiar with both areas, it would be a tough choice...but because of the work location I'd lean heavily toward the San Jose area.

You could even live in Mountain View or Palo Alto depending on where your job is. There are plenty of proffesionals in those areas and they have nice downtowns, and a more suburban feel.
