I'm a tree hugging, liberal, ethical, fashionable raw vegan. Forget about Marin...c'mon over to North Berkeley.

Thanks redwoodlvr! One of the first things I want to do when I get back to California is to hug a redwood tree right after I kiss the ground. I'm going to have DH take a picture of it so I will never forget. And every time I think the grass might be greener, I will look at the pictures and remember how happy I was to get back to that beautiful state we call California.

I remember researching Berkeley pretty heavily before as we know it is a liberal area, but I couldn't remember what turned us off (as I have researched so many places it is difficult to keep them straight). But I just did a little looking and realized that it was the schools and the crime in the area. Albany seems to have good schools though.

Fairfax is a charming little town. It's got a nice walkable downtown area, a small square with cafes, shops and a good selection of places to eat. Not much chain shopping from what I've seen, seems to support local business well.
It always struck me as a nice place to raise kids. I honestly don't know what the schools are like but it seems like a kid friendly place.
I'd sum it up as a place where hippies who grew up and made a bit of cash settled. I think it's worth a look. Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much for your reply eightiesfan. Fairfax is on my list of places to check out.
Anyone else have any input on other towns in Marin?
