I don't think San Francisco has stable weather at all, I'd actually say the exact opposite.

Why?

Summer: Most weather reports will say "sunny day, high of 75", but then the fog will roll in and knock the temperature down to 60 degrees. You drive from Sunset District to Mission District and the temperature can be a whole 10 degrees different in just a matter of miles. You drive out of the city and it will be another 10 degrees higher (up to 20 degrees difference). I used to put my top down in San Francisco shivering just to drive to Palo Alto where I'm boiling. There are many days where the morning would be foggy and I'd put on a thick jacket and after class I'm sweating when I go outside. It's a great city, but you need to know the weather is unstable if that's an important factor for you. Mark Twain - "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco" Which depends entirely if that day has fog or not and what part of the city you live in.

I totally agree with the above post!

If you are still stuck on SF, and prefer more stable, milder weather you need to try Bernal Heights on either side of the hill. I lived there for years (city side). Bernal's weather is the mildest in SF. It has been written up in National Geographic. When the rest of the city is enveloped in fog, Bernal Heights is often clear and sunny.

But if you're looking for truly stable weather, you're not going to like the cold wind in SF. And remember we are in global warming with NYC being 40 right now, and in Portland we are snowed in, Galveston has snow and so does New Orleans.

Still, I now live in Portland and I am thinking of leaving and going back to SF. The weather here is just too much of an issue. I'll take SF weather any year!

Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, anywhere in SF within about 20 blocks of the ocean.

Can anyone weigh in on the weather in Lamorinda? My husband is searching for a rental for us out there and he told me none of the homes he saw had a/c. Not even window units. Which seems odd, since most of the homes we are looking at are recent renovations. He insists that they must not be necessary. I need a/c if there are going to be more than a few days over 85 degrees!

There's not much of a wind chill factor, it just gets windy... my neighborhood (Bayview/Portola) is probably the windiest, and it can get REALLY crazy sometimes! We have a weird tunnel effect with our roof, too, so the sounds can be extremely creepy - woooooowoooooowooooo. But like others have said, there are many micro-climates in the Bay Area, so it all depends on your exact location.

Pacifica, Montara/Moss Beach, Half Moon Bay, Sunset District (SF), western Daly City & South San Francisco... basically anywhere along the coast, since the fog keeps temperatures down. I lived in Pacifica for a little while, and it was blissfully cool nearly every day. East Bay is generally warmer everywhere, but Berkeley and Point Richmond (maybe Alameda & Emeryville?) get a bit of that coastal weather.

How odd, LOL. Micro-climates. Yeah, I would definitely want to settle in the warmest, less windiest part of the city if possible. But I would want to be in the middle of all the action, too. And all these different neighborhoods and areas with their different weather zones....YEESH!!!

Yup, micro-climates! We have a saying around here - If you don't like the weather, drive a mile in any direction. Sounds like Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, SoMa, Mission Bay, and Noe Valley would be right up your alley... any idea what your budget will be?

^^^^Not quite sure yet on the budget as I am still saving and working on other financial arrangements. Plus, I'm still debating on whether I should go back to Hawaii, or move to SD or SF. I miss Hawaii, but none of the schools there offer what I want to study (Film, NOT acting, LOL). Also, as far as SD, I've ready too many posts on here saying it was too laid back with no culture. I've visited SF many times, and I love the city, just hate cold weather. But I would make the sacrifice to live in a city that offers other things that I am looking for.
