Default Walnut Creek--Near Citrus Marketplace

Hi,

I am planning to move to the area for new employment. Is it a good neighborhood?

My wife and girls like to be near a good local shopping center--get their groceries/nails done--is Citrus Marketplace a good place to get basic shopping done?

Any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ivan

Walnut Creek is just an AMAZING place to be. Your family would love it. It is one of the best places to live in the entire Bay Area and has too much shopping to keep your family more than busy. The restaurants are great too! It is a bit costly on the rental side but the rents are going down.

Best of luck to you.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the replying.

When you say shopping--what are the best shopping centers (near Citrus Marketplace)?

Glad to hear rents are going down. I'm still debating whether to buy or rent but I may now just hold off on buying a home since 2009 could get even uglier with all those re-defaults.

Walnut Creek is a great place to live and work. However,
I am not familiar with the Citrus Marketplace. They have an upscale Broadway Plaza with most of the chains like J. Crew, Tiffany's, etc.
Walnut Creek is east of Oakland on Hwy 24, is that where you mean?

It's a good area, kind of on the outskirts of what most think of as Walnut Creek. Just make sure you're kids are in boundaries to go to Northgate High instead of Ygnacio Valley High. Getting down there via Ygnacio or Treat Blvds is gonna be pain during rush hour though, especial YV Blvd. Citrus Marketplace is not that big, their is a Nob Hills food but I can't rememeber what else. But there are several other larger shopping center/strip malls that will have most of what you need.

The good, high end clothes shopping and good restaurants are in Downtown WC, everything else has your basic neighborhood services for the most part.

Actually, there are some "not so nice" sections of Walnut Creek, and I found out the hard way that I live in one. Dont live off of Treat Bl, near the Pleasant Hill Bart, or on the Concord border. It is a "sketchy" area. Our car has been broken into 2X since we moved here 9 months ago.

I know there are also nice sections of Walnut Creek. Before you rent something, make sure it is not on the border of Pleasant Hill or Concord, or make sure you get into a security building if you are near a bart station.

There are a lot of car break-ins in Walnut Creek, true. You should live in a secured area. But violent or random crime is not high in Walnut Creek. There really isn't a bad area to it. The Concord border is not bad. I have friends that live on that side of town and have never experienced a problem. I can't comment about the Pleasant Hill side. All of the schools in Walnut Creek are high performing schools. Walnut Creek is clean and beautiful and has both a city and home town feel to it. I have yet to see a "not so nice" or "sketchy" side of Walnut Creek when you compare it to other areas of the Bay Area.
