I have moved from Massachusetts to Alameda in November 08 and I have to say that I am enjoying life here. I work in Downtown Oakland and drive to work in about 15-20 minutes through the Posey tube. My 21 year daughter came to visit from College and finds it too suburban and finds it kind of boring. She prefers Oakland for the entertainment. I prefer Alameda because the living is easy here.
There is everything that I need here: clean modern stores, good choices of restaurants and bakeries; plus a nice dog park that I both my dog and I can socialize in.
That said it is a fine place to reside but the rents and home prices are quite high, you will have to decide if it is worth it.

Someone mentioned past gang activity around Buena Vista Ave. Is this still an issue there?
